The tragic end of Osama bin Laden

Osama bin Laden has been a controversial figure in the Muslim world. Some view him as a true Islamic warrior, others, as a murderer and terrorist. Is his death that of a martyr or otherwise? Maulana skillfully dissects Osama’s actions and motives, explaining to the mureeds a very important lesson as to why Tariqah is so important, for it is the only means of subduing the Ego. Maulana says, we are all servants – either to our Egos, or to our Lord. One who returns to Allah as a slave to his Ego, has lost his honour, forever.

This is perhaps one of the most important Suhbahs ever Summarised, it is for anyone who seeks to know what religion is really all about. The aim of religion is so simple, so fundamental, but shaitan has distracted us from the true destination – it is like a student who enrolls in the best University, who goes to campus everyday, and participates in so many campus activities (like Sports, Social work, running the Campus newsletter and standing for elections on the Student Council etc) – he does everything, except study, and in the end he fails his examinations.

Today’s believers are doing just that – they are aimlessly going through the motion of performing the religious rituals, but they are not tasting or feeling anything real, for they have left out the most important ingredient of the meal. Food without salt is tasteless, just as drinks without sugar is. Each time we have whip up a gourmet meal, shaitan ensures that we forget the salt and sugar. Because religion is so tasteless today, people are seeking to taste from the enjoyment of dunia instead.

Read this Suhbah slowly and with a real desire to understand what has gone wrong in our lives. Maulana has laid out our most important struggle in religion, clearly for us to see.

May Allah bestow us all with understanding and wisdom, ameen! Continue reading

The Secret to becoming a real Mureed

In this Suhbah, Maulana revealed how each human Soul was dressed in the most beautiful of clothings of Servanthood on the Day of Promises, but so many humans have discarded these Robes of Honour in favour of seeking temporary worldly honour, denying their servanthood to their Lord.
Everyone wants to lead, and this has led to the united Ottoman Empire becoming the fragmented array of Muslim nations it is today, each of which ironically ruled by a dictator who has turned his back shamelessly on the Holy Shariah. Divine slaps will rain endlessly on these nations, until they submit and unite under one Sultan.
This dis-unity has spread even to Tariqah followers, who have of late been involved in name-calling and repeated skirmishes, despite all being under the tutelage of one Shaykh. The Prophet (saw) said, “You will not enter Paradise until you have faith, and you will not acquire faith, until you love one another.” If we cannot love one another, how can we be believers, let alone fellow mureeds?

The only Way Up, is to head Down

Despite being a weak creation, Man believes he is powerful because of the technology, knowledge, army and resources he possesses.
Shaitan is always pushing Man to follow in his cursed footsteps – that is to claim superiority and to look down on others, just as shaitan did to Adam (as).
Tariqah on the other hand, teaches Man the opposite – to become nameless, forgotten and humble ones, just as Maryam (as) prayed in the Quran. In the words of Maulana, “Tariqah trains you, to accept to be Nothing.”
It is so sad that today that, even those within Tariqah, have forgotten this ultimate aim in their journey, and many of them are busy looking down and condemning other Muslims spitefully; they feel superior to their fellow seekers who are on the same journey and so many mureeds are at loggerheads with other mureeds. This has bred a disease of Shaykdom – everyone wants to be a Shaykh, every wants to be noticed, everyone wants to hog the limelight – but no one wants to be the humble mureed, the unknown servant or the forgotten follower. The journey to Sainthood is the latter, but so few tread that path today. Continue reading

Allah likes to see His servants happy: 1st November 2010

In this Suhbah, Maulana advised Shaykh Kayyal on six specific matters – how to stand like a servant during prayers, to stop at the appropriate places when reading a Surah, to keep prayers swift and brief when being the Imam, to sport beards, to be happy ones who made people laugh, as well as to the purpose of advising one another. It is a brief Suhbah, but full of bite-sized delicacies! Continue reading

Return to Him as a servant, and He will honour you like a king: 14th October 2010

There are only two categories in life. There is the Creator, and there is the creation (servants). Since you are not the Creator, you must be the creation, the servant! If you are not acting as a servant, that means you are acting as the Master! Allah is displeased with those who do that – Allah has no partners. So there is only servanthood, there is no other category for us except that. Return to him as servants, and He will grant you never-ending honour and glory! Don’t return to him as a King, but as a servant! Continue reading

A question posed by the disciples of Jesus: 11th October 2010

Prophets never came to bring laughter and jokes, they were on a serious mission to bring realities. Prophets and Holy Books teach Man to change his life until it is in line with Heavenly Orders. Are you observing closely what you are doing – is it in accordance with Heavenly orders or are you doing as you like? Every act that is obeying your ego, is disobeying Allah! Every act that is accordance with you ego’s demands, is haram! The ultimate pedestal Man can be placed on in this world, is not to be a King, but to be His servant. Continue reading

Islam came to free you from slavery to dunia

By building a bond with dunia, you cannot attain spiritual uplifting, because, to have a relationship with dunia – to forge an attachment to any part of it – is to become its slave! Islam came to free Mankind from slavery to dunia, not to teach Man to cling to it! Islam frees us from being a servant to anything, other than Allah. Continue reading

Servanthood is honour, slavery is humiliation

Humans reject Servanthood to Allah, they prefer slavery to shaitan. Whereas Servanthood is an unmatched honour, Slavery is an abject humiliation for Mankind, it is the lowest and most degraded state of a human being. Continue reading
