A Miraculous Aspect of the Qur’ān

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says,

“خَيْرُكُمْ مَنْ تَعَلَّمَ القُرْآنَ وَعَلَّمَهُ”

“Khayrukum man ta‘allama l-Qur’ān wa ‘allamah”

“The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur’ān.” Ṣadaqa RasuluLlah.

The best among you is the one who learns and teaches the Qur’ān. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has given each person a different ability, but He ﷻ has also bestowed upon them all the ability to learn the Qur’ān. As we have said, Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is the greatest of the miracles of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.

Because it is the blessed book of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, which will remain forever, until the Day of Judgment, and which explains everything. Therefore, learning and reading it is a great blessing for people. Not only Muslims, but often non-Muslims also read and study it out of curiosity. Many even become Muslim while studying it.

Of course, when learning the Qur’ān, some people may not be able to pronounce the letters correctly. If they can, then they have; even if they cannot, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla will still accept it. “يَسِّرُوا ولا تُعَسِّرُوا”, “Yassirū wa-lā Tu‘assiru”, “Make things easy and do not make them difficult”. [Hadith]. “Yassirū” means to make it easy; grant ease, and let it be easy.

Sometimes people struggle and give up reading altogether, just trying to pronounce a letter correctly. They say, “I can’t pronounce this letter.” However, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said that no matter how well you pronounce the letter, the angels will correct those letters and present your recitation beautifully. Thus, it will be fully recorded in your book of deeds.

Therefore, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said, “Read and learn Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n; the best among you are those who learn it and teach it.” Therefore, shukr to Allāh ﷻ, this summer, children are learning the Qur’ān. It would be very good if those who don’t know how to read the Qur’ān could at least learn along with them.

Summer vacation is an opportunity. Instead of going here and there – of course, they can go wherever they want and have fun – they should take advantage of this opportunity and learn the Qur’ān. Slowly, as they read as much as they can, they will progress and learn more each time.

Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n has a very miraculous aspect. People who don’t know any Arabic can memorize it even if they don’t understand its meaning. This is truly unique and unseen in anything else. Of course, there are people who learn a foreign language and memorize other poems, or who read and learn books written by others even if they aren’t in their native language.

But there is no other book in the world that can be memorized from beginning to end without knowing or understanding its meaning. There is no other book like this in the world; this is one of the miracles of Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. So, the fact that it can be memorized without knowing the language or understanding its meaning is actually very interesting to us.

Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, since we were born in Damascus, we know a little bit. However, I am also very surprised at how a Turk, a Persian, or someone from another nation who doesn’t know any Arabic can memorize it perfectly. But this is a miracle of the Qur’ān, that Allāh ﷻ makes it easy to memorize. Thus, people memorize it perfectly even if they don’t know its meaning.

May Allāh ﷻ fill our hearts with the light of Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. May He ﷻ keep it in the minds of the children who memorize it, so that they never forget it, in shā’a Llāh; may we all not forget it, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
