Fitnah As a Dark Night

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam described the end times. He ﷺ said there will be such fitnah that it will be, “كَقِطَعِ اللَّيْلِ الْمُظْلِمِ”, “Ka kita’il layli l-muzlim,” meaning “Like a part of the dark night.”

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said there will be many parts of fitnahs, like a dark night. One asks himself, wondering, “How can such things happen!” Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam expressed this with his ﷺ blessed words.

Prophethood means foretelling what will happen in the future. Everything our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said has come to pass and appeared. Lastly, he ﷺ described the time we are living in.

These fitnahs, this turmoil, the state of the world, the state of people—it truly amazes one. There is fitnah everywhere. There is no place without fitnah. This fitnah exists in every country, whether Muslim or not.

Therefore, we must be vigilant, saying, “This is the end of times.” Our blessed ones said, more than a thousand years ago, “ِهَذَا زَمَنُ السُّكُوتِ وَمُلازَمَةُ البُيُوت”, “Hadha Zamanu s-Sukut wa Mulazamatu l-Buyut.” “This is the time of silence and staying at home,” meaning that only at home can you be saved from fitnah.

Therefore, we must be very careful about people and our surroundings. Something can happen at any unexpected moment. This is the fitnah of the end of times.

Seek refuge in Allāh ﷻ and be saved from its evil, in shā’a Llāh. Surely, whoever seeks refuge in Allāh ﷻ will receive help; Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla will help them.

Therefore, may Allāh ﷻ protect us from the fitnahs and evils of our time. May Allāh ﷻ grant people mind and understanding. May they control their egos. May they not follow shayṭān. May they not believe everything they hear.

The way to believe is the way of sharī’ah, the way of ṭarīqah. May they not give credence to anything outside of these, so that they do not fall into fitnah. May Allāh ﷻ protect us.

Everyone, young and old, adult and children – you cannot say, “I am an adult, I am safe from fitnah, shayṭān cannot deceive me.” The shayṭān deceives everyone.

Therefore, you must seek refuge in Allāh ﷻ. Whoever seeks refuge in Allāh ﷻ will be saved, by the permission of Allāh ﷻ. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from these fitnahs and evils.

Wa min Allāh at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
