Safar al-Khayr is the second month of the Islamic Hijri calendar.

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil ar-Rabbaniق said:

“Safar is a challenging month, therefore they say Safar-ul Khayr so it would be a means towards beneficence (khayr). There is wisdom in everything. One must know the blessed days, blessed months, heavy months, more average months. Allah created everything with wisdom. When we are aware of them, we receive their benefits, rewards, and our state goes higher. He causes them to be of benefit both materially and spiritually.”

As Safar is known to be a heavier month, we are advised to observe its adab and remain consistent with its prescribed awrad and wazifas, seeking Allah ﷻ’s protection from trials and calamities.

The greatest musibah (calamity) is the loss of faith or becoming distanced from this Way. Therefore, we should make abundant du’a for both physical and spiritual protection for ourselves, our families, and the Ummah.

Among the most important practices during this month are giving sadaqah and increasing in istighfar.

The most significant date to note this month is the last Wednesday of Safar, which falls on 12th August 2026.

*Dates may vary from country to country depending on local moon sightings. Kindly follow your local authority where applicable.

*For simplicity and consistency, the dates mentioned here follow Mawlanaق’s calendar.

InsyaAllah, Safar 1448H will begin after Maghrib on Tuesday, 14th July 2026.

Eve of Safar.

At sunset, it is Sunnah to sight the new moon and recite the New Moon Sighting Du’a.

Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق would start the month with the recitation of Hizbul Wiqayah by Ibn Arabi.

In the video above, Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق begins the month of Safar with this recitation, and Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adilق completes it thereafter. You may follow their recitation from the [03:55] mark in the video.

What is Hizbul Wiqayah?

Hizbul Wiqayah is part of a compiled book of five daily litanies published by Hakkani Publishing House, with permission from Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil ar-Rabbaniق.

These include:

  • Dala’il al-Khayrat
  • Hizbul A‘zam
  • Hizbul Istighfar
  • Hizbul Wiqayah
  • Hizbul Ghayath

In the month of Safar, we are strongly encouraged to recite Hizbul Wiqayah specifically, as a means of protection and blessing. This can be found on page 266 to 273 of the full Istanbul Version.

If you prefer a printable version of just Hizbul Wiqayah, various formats are available here.

Shaykh Baha’uddinق has also spoken extensively on the benefits of this powerful du’a, and has even incorporated it into his daily awrad.

Full Guide to Hizbul Wiqayah available here.

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, 27th to 29th July 2026

13th to 15th of Safar.

These days are known as the White Days, during which it is Sunnah to fast.

This practice originates with Sayyidina Adam (AS). After he began eating the food of this world, his skin darkened from the radiance it once had in Jannah. He asked Sayyidina Jibril (AS) how to remove this darkness, and he was taught to fast three days each month.

You may also intend to follow the Sunnah of fasting on a Thursday, while combining it with any qadha (missed) fasts you may owe.

For Sunnah fasts, the intention may be made anytime during the day. The Prophet ﷺ used to return home after Fajr prayers, and if no food was found at home, he would then make the intention to fast.

However, for Fardhu fasts, the intention must be made before the Azan of Fajr that day.

20th of Safar.

Tonight marks the 40th day of the Martyrdom of Imam Husseinر and his Holy Family and Companions in Karbala.

Tuesday, 4th August 2026

21st of Safar.

The most favourable day for Hijama this month.

The best days to perform Hijama therapy, according to the Sunnah, are the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the Hijri month. It is even more beneficial when these days fall on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Cupping is a cure for many illnesses and an important Sunnah to practice. Doing it once a year is sufficient for those in good health.

Important: Never do cupping on Wednesdays or Saturdays, as this brings more harm than benefit according to a hadeeth.

The Last Wednesday of Safar.

It is said that 70,000 afflictions descend upon creation on this day.

The Prophet ﷺ asked, “Who will be the one to give me good tidings of the end of Safar al-Khayr?”

Numerous previous nations perished during this month.

Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق said:

“The month of Safar is the heaviest month among the 12 months and the last Wednesday of Safar is also the most difficult day. Disasters may overtake many places.

Pray at least 2 raka’ats that day and beg that the roof over your head does not fly off suddenly; that you not be flooded, as in many places; that volcanoes may not erupt, as they erupted in many places; that the ocean may not overflow the lands as it has in so many places.

O little human beings, fear Allah! Have shame before Allah and avoid doing doing evil. Live for Allah alone, worshipping Him as His sincere servants.”

Here are the Recommended Daily Devotions for the Last Wednesday of Safar (PDF with clickable links here):

We are strongly encouraged to follow the Adab of Grandshaykkh Abdullah Al-Fa’iz Ad-Daghestaniق, as conveyed by Shaykh Adnan Kabbaniق in his book.

Alongside our regular Daily Adab and Awrad, observe the following practices on the Final Wednesday of Safar in your country:

① After sunrise, pray 2 raka’at Solatul Hifz, the Prayer of Protection.

This is a two rakaʿat prayer, performed similar to Isha prayer.

The goal is to complete a total of one hundred and fifty tasbih, which means seventy‑five tasbih in each rakaʿat.

The tasbih in each rakaʿat are distributed as follows:

  • 15 tasbih after the Takbir
  • 10 tasbih after reciting 1 Al-Fatiha and 3 Al-Ikhlas
  • 10 tasbih in rukuʿ
  • 10 tasbih in iʿtidal
  • 10 tasbih in sujud
  • 10 tasbih between the two prostrations
  • and 10 tasbih in the second sujud

Repeat the same sequence for the remaining three rakaʿat.

② After Salam, complete the Daily Safar Wazifa and end with Ihda (dedication).

③ Ideally between Zuhur and Asar, pray 4 raka’at Solatul Safar.

This is a 2 set of 2 rakaʿat prayer.

In each rakaʿat:

  • 1 x Surah Al-Fatiha
  • 17 x Surah Al-Kauthar
  • 5 x Surah Al-Ikhlas
  • 1 x Surah Al-Falaq and
  • 1 x Surah An-Nas

In Mawlanaق’s sohbah last year, he also shared a simplified version for this prayer.

In each rakaʿat:

  • 1 x Surah Al-Fatiha
  • 11 x Surah Al-Ikhlas

After completing this prayer, make du’a to be in safety and protection and end with Ihda (dedication).

④ Give charity before leaving the house. (Hajjah Rukiye advised giving charity twice on this day in her Sohbah)

⑤ Unless absolutely necessary, avoid going out from Fajr of the last Wednesday of Safar until Fajr on Thursday.

If you must go out, return home swiftly.

Refrain from eating fish or any seafood that has been brought out from the oceans on this day.

⑦ Qurban (animal sacrifice) if you have the means.

SufiHub (Naqshbandi ‘Aliyyah A’Posh Singapore) will be organizing a collective qurban for this blessed occasion at the maqam of Grandshaykh Abdullahق in Syria.

Those who wish to contribute can find more information about our monthly charity efforts on our Telegram channel.

⑧ Wear the colour Green!

May Allah ﷻ envelop us in His infinite mercy and divine protection throughout this month of Safar, safeguard us and our families from every trial, calamity, the hidden plots and fitnah of those who wish us harm, every misfortune, and preserve us in faith and steadfastness upon the path of His Beloved Prophet ﷺ and the Awliya’.

May He ﷻ lighten the burdens of all believers, relieve every heart in distress, accept our worship and supplications, and grant us goodness in this world and the Hereafter.

This guide has been compiled from the teachings of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan, whose legacy continues at our Zawiyah at A’Posh Bizhub, Singapore, through his representatives, Sidi Shalihin, Ismail, and Syed Muhammad, who humbly carry forward the Naqshbandi path he laid with love and adab.

It also encompasses the teachings of great masters such as Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilaniق, Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammadق, Shaykh Adnan Kabbaniق, Shaykh Raja Ashman Shahق, various classical and contemporary kitabs along with the writings of Awliya and scholars of the Naqshbandi Way.

As such, it is intended as a comprehensive guide to the devotions one may practice in these blessed months.

However, as Mawlanaق has often reminded us, any form of worship is accepted by Allah ﷻ, no matter how small. We should always strive to do good, even in small amounts, for what matters most is sincerity and consistency.

One should not feel disheartened or overwhelmed and abandon worship altogether. No matter the measure of our deeds, our duty is to keep striving to improve in this beautiful Way. We are truly blessed to have Mawlanaق’s guidance always.

We pray this guide brings benefit, provides clarity, and supports you on your journey.

We seek forgiveness for any shortcomings or errors.
