Higher education doesn’t always lead you higher: 16th December 2010

Maulana tackles the thorny issue of people who spend many years pursuing higher education. He explains the need for Muslims to seek out jobs that are in demand – even though these may be the blue-collar, less glamorous avenues of employment. Honour in Islam is in seeking halal rizq; there is no greater honour in being a lawyer, as compared to working as a plumber, yet people nowadays shun such manual jobs, due to pride and ignorance. What is the point of being an unemployed graduate? So much that is taught in University today is irrelevant and of no benefit to society. Maulana has three interesting suggestion for graduates of this type of knowledge. Continue reading

Be careful where you plant the seed: 12th November 2010

True knowledge is only from the Qur’an. The rampant spread of teachings that deny Allah’s existence, pushes Man to the bottomless pit of faithlessness. We must be careful what our children learn, for once this unbelief takes root, the child grows up to be one who lives to seek gratification of his desires. Drunk with seeking pleasure, he abandons the pursuit of true honour that Allah wishes to grant Man, he abandons the worship of Allah Almighty, he turns his back on Servanthood, and he never understands the purpose of his short stint in this world. Read, listen to, and obey the Qur’an

Read the Qur’an, for when you do so, blessings descend upon you like the falling rain, but when you leave it, curses and humiliation descend upon that person/family/community/country that leaves it. How many of our children are learning and reading the Qur’an today, and how many continue to do it all their lives? Continue reading
