Dhul Hijjah is the twelfth and final month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, known as the Month of Hajj. During this sacred time, Muslims prepare to fulfil the fifth pillar of Islam: the Hajj pilgrimage. The first ten days are immensely blessed days in which acts of worship such as Salah, fasting, charity, dhikr, and every form of goodness are especially beloved in the sight of Allah ﷻ.

Sayyidina Abdullah ibn Abbasر reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said:

“There are no days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Allah than these ten days.”

The Sahabah asked, “Not even jihad in the path of Allah?”

Rasulullah ﷺ replied:

“Not even jihad for the sake of Allah, except for a man who went out with his life and wealth and returned with neither.”

[Sahih al-Bukhari]

Among the blessed days of this month, the following are especially significant:

  • The First 10 Nights — Mawlanaق said, “Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla swears by them. These nights are among the most blessed nights of the year.”
  • Yawm al-‘Arafah (The Day of Arafah) — 9 Dhul Hijjah / 26th May 2026
  • Eid al-Adha (The Day of Sacrifice) — 10 Dhul Hijjah / 27th May 2026

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adilق said, “Everything related to Hajj is very holy and special. Some ‘ulama say that these days are even better than Ramadan because in Ramadan we do not know which night is Laylatul Qadr. But during these nights, it is clearly known. Allah Almighty made it known so people could gain immense rewards and blessings from these days.”

— Taken from The Ten Nights

Even if we are unable to physically perform Hajj this year, Mawlanaق reminded us to make a firm intention to do so, for a person may still receive the thawab (reward) according to the sincerity of their intention.

InsyaAllah, Dhul Hijjah 1447H is expected to begin after Maghrib this Sunday, 17th May 2026.

Sunday, 17th May

Eve of Dhul Hijjah.

Here are the Recommended Practices for the Eve of Dhul Hijjah:

Important:

For those intending to perform Qurban (animal sacrifice), any cutting of hair or nails should be completed before Maghrib while still in Dhul Qa‘dah. Once Dhul Hijjah begins, refrain from cutting hair or nails until the sacrifice has been completed.

This ruling only applies to the person offering and paying for the sacrifice, not to other family members, unless they are offering a sacrifice on their own as well.

From Asar onwards:

Perform a ritual bath (ghusl), followed by two raka‘at Solatul Wudhu.

Make the intention for Partial Seclusion, which began on the 1st of Dhul Qadah and will continue until the 10th of Dhul Hijjah.

Observe the Adab of Tariqah.

From Maghrib onwards:

Recite the New Moon Sighting Du’a.

Perform the Sunnah Prayer of Dhul Hijjah.

Hajjah Rukiye Sultan taught a special two raka‘at prayer best done on the first night of Dhul Hijjah, continuing until Eid al-Adha.

In each raka‘at recite:

  • Surah Al-Fatiha — 1 time
  • Ayatul Kursi — 1 time
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas — 3 times
  • Surah Al-Falaq — 3 times
  • Surah An-Nas — 3 times

After salam, ask Allah ﷻ for forgiveness, mercy, and all your needs in this life and the next. Do also remember your loved ones, those who requested your du‘as, the Ummah of Rasulullah ﷺ, and our Shuyukh.

Increase your good deeds, worship and night vigil, which is encouraged from this night until Eid al-Adha.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Every good deed of the son of Adam is multiplied, and a good deed receives between ten and seven hundred times its reward.”

[Sahih Muslim]

Monday, 18th May/ 1 Dhul Hijjah

1st of Dhul Hijjah.

Sunnah Fasting of Dhul Hijjah begins.

We are highly encouraged to fast from the 1st until the 9th of Dhul Hijjah.

Sayyidina Abu Hurayrahر reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said:

“One fast during these days is equal to fasting for an entire year, and worship during one night in these days is equal to worship on Laylatul Qadr.”

[Sunan Tirmidhi]

You may increase the reward of fasting by combining intentions, such as:

  • The Sunnah fasts of Dhul Hijjah
  • Monday and Thursday Sunnah fasts
  • Qadha (missed) fasts

If unable to fast all nine days, then the most emphasised days are:

  • 8th Dhul Hijjah — Yawm at-Tarwiyah
  • 9th Dhul Hijjah — Yawm al-‘Arafah

Here are the Recommended Daily Devotions for the month of Dhul Hijjah (PDF with clickable links):

① Astaghfirullah — 100 times

② Surah Al-Ikhlas — 100 times

③ La ilaha illallah — 100 to 1,000 times

④ Salawat — 100 to 1,000 times

Allahumma salli ʿala Muhammadin wa ʿala ali Muhammadin wa sallim

⑤ Ya Latif — 100 times

⑥ Ya Jabbar — 100 times

Ya Ghaffar — 100 times

⑧ Ya Mu’in al A’jizin (O Helper of the helpless) — 100 times

Additional Recommended Practices:

Partial Seclusion Till 10th Dhul Hijjah

Complete Daily Adab & Awrad

⑪ Increase in Ibadah (Acts of Devotion)

e.g. Worship, charity, Qur’an recitation, repentance, reflection, du‘as, night vigil and good deeds.

The Prophet ﷺ encouraged abundant recitation of:

  • Tasbih — SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
  • Tahmid — Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
  • Tahlil — La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
  • Takbir — Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)

Mawlanaق encouraged abundant recitation of:

“SubhanAllah, walhamdulillah, wa la ilaha illallah.”

⑫ Perform Hajj & Umrah

Make a sincere intention and strive to perform Hajj.

In his recent sohbah, Mawlanaق reminded us that Hajj is fard, and that we should begin saving and setting aside money for it from an early stage. Any excess beyond this may then be used towards performing Umrah.

And even if one is unable to go for Hajj this year, a believer may still receive reward according to their sincere intention. If unable to physically perform Hajj, then strive to enliven these blessed days through worship, remembrance of Allah, fasting, charity, and sincere devotion.

⑬ Sunnah of Qurban

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adilق said, Our Holy Prophet’s ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam order says that whoever can make qurbān but doesn’t make it shouldn’t say he prays. Because when a person can afford it but doesn’t make it, this means that he is not carrying out the order of our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.”

— Taken from The First Day of ’Īd

If you have the means, honour and revive the Sunnah of Qurban (animal sacrifice), even if only by contributing a small share or portion. It commemorates the submission and sacrifice of Sayyidina Ibrahim (AS). Qurban is among the greatest acts of devotion during these blessed days and carries immense reward in the sight of Allah ﷻ.

Sunnah Prayer for the First Ten Days

Hajjah Rukiye Sultan taught a special two raka‘at prayer best done on the first night, continuing until Eid al-Adha.

In each raka‘at recite:

  • Surah Al-Fatiha — 1 time
  • Ayatul Kursi — 1 time
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas — 3 times
  • Surah Al-Falaq — 3 times
  • Surah An-Nas — 3 times

After salam, ask Allah ﷻ for forgiveness, mercy, and all your needs in this life and the next. Do include your loved ones, those who requested your du‘as, the Ummah of Rasulullah ﷺ, and our Shuyukh.

Friday, 22nd May/ 5 Dhul Hijjah

The Only Jumaah of the Ten Blessed Days of Dhul Hijjah.

From the Maghrib of 21st May, we welcome the only Jumaah that falls within these sacred days.

Not only are these the most virtuous days of the year, but they are joined with the immense blessings of Jumaah as well.

Therefore, do not let this precious day pass without striving to make the most of it by sending abundant salawat upon our Holy Prophet ﷺ.

Monday, 25th May/ 8 Dhul Hijjah

Day of Tarwiyah.

Sunnah Fasting.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever fasts on the Day of Tarwiyah is given the reward of Sayyidina Ayyub (AS) in his patience through affliction, and whoever fasts on the Day of ‘Arafah is given the reward of Sayyidina ‘Isa (AS).”

[Imam Safouri, Nuzhat al-Majalis]

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adilق said:

“Yawm at-Tarwiyah is the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, the day before ‘Arafah. Both are holy days. Showing respect to them and making worship brings big profit.

— Taken from The Eighth and Ninth of Dhū l-Ḥijjah

From Maghrib onwards, you may begin your Devotions for the Day of Arafah.

Tuesday, 26th May/ 9 Dhul Hijjah

Day of Arafah.

The 9th day of Dhul Hijjah is known as Yawm al-‘Arafah (the Day of ‘Arafah), and it is the holiest day of the year.

On this day, the Hujjaj (pilgrims) gather on the plain of Arafah, located about six miles from Makkah al-Mukarramah, where they perform the most essential pillar of Hajj: the Wuquf of Arafah (the standing at Arafah).

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Hajj is Arafah.”

[Tirmidhi]

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“There is no day on which Allah frees more people from the Fire than the Day of Arafah.”

[Sahih Muslim]

Anas ibn Malikر said:

“Each of the ten days carries the reward of 1,000 days, while the Day of Arafah carries the reward of 10,000 days.

[Al-Bayhaqi]

On this day, Allah ﷻ draws near to His servants, forgives them, and proudly mentions them to His angels, even those who are not physically present in Arafah.

It is a day overflowing with mercy, forgiveness, and immense rewards for those who turn to Allah ﷻ seeking His pleasure and pardon.

Here are the Recommended Devotions for the Day of Arafah (PDF with clickable links):

① Astaghfirullah — 1,000 times

If possible, recite “Astaghfirullahal Azeem wa atubu ilayh.”

② La ilaha illallahu wahdahu la sharika lah, lahul mulku wa lahul hamdu yuhyi wa yumit, wa huwa ‘ala kulli shay’in qadir — 100 to 1,000 times

③ Surah Al-Ikhlas — 100 to 1,000 times

④ SubhanAllah walhamdulillah wa la ilaha illallah wallahu akbar — 100 to 1,000 times

⑤ Salawat — 100 to 1,000 times

Allahumma salli ʿala Muhammadin wa ʿala ali Muhammadin wa sallim

Additional Recitations as taught by Shaykh Adnan Kabbaniق:

✧ La ilaha illallahul Malikul Haqqul Mubin Muhammadur Rasulullahi Sadiqul Wa‘dil Ameen — 100 to 1,000 times

Sayyid as-Salawat (The Master of Salawat)

Grandshaykh’s Du’a Al-Mathur

Additional Recommended Practices on the Day of Arafah:

Fasting (for those not performing Hajj)

Fasting on this day erases the sins of the previous year and the year to come. Remember fasting means that your tongue, eyes, and all organs, must fast too, especially your heart.

In her Sohbah, Hajjah Rukiye Sultan spoke about the immense reward of this fast, which has been likened to fasting for 10,000 days or even two years. She shared that each person who fasts receives the reward of everyone who fasted, as well as those who should have fasted.

And on Judgement Day, 70,000 angels will accompany those who observed this fast.

Spending the Day in Worship

✦ From Maghrib of 8th Dhul Hijjah onwards:

Start by reciting the Shahada 3 times.

Make intention for Partial Seclusion.

Complete Daily Adab and Awrad, Devotions for the Month, Devotions for the Day, and Qur’an recitation and reflections.

It is recommended to recite the full Hizbul Azam on this day, ideally during the time of Wuquf. However, as it may take several hours to complete, it is advisable to begin earlier in the day.

Complete version of Hizbul Azam

Hizbul Azam in Arabic

Hizbul Azam Transliteration

Shortened version of Hizbul Azam

Continue engaging in abundant dhikr throughout the day:

  • Tasbih — SubhanAllah (Glory be to Allah)
  • Tahmid — Alhamdulillah (All praise is due to Allah)
  • Tahlil — La ilaha illallah (There is no god but Allah)
  • Takbir — Allahu Akbar (Allah is the Greatest)

‘Abdullah ibn ‘Umar (RA) reported that the Prophet ﷺ said:

“There are no days greater in the sight of Allah, nor days in which righteous deeds are more beloved to Him, than these ten days. So increase in them your Tahlil, Takbir, and Tahmid.

Recite the Takbir of Tashreeq.

“Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illa Allah, wallahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar wa lillahil hamd.”

(There is no God but Allah ﷻ and Allah is the greatest, Allah is the greatest and to Allah belongs all praise.)

This is to be recited after every fard prayer from Fajr of 9th Dhul Hijjah until Asar of 13th Dhul Hijjah.

✦ Between Zuhur and Asar:

If you are unable to complete the full Hizbul Azam, then at the very least recite the first chapter after Zuhur, as taught by Hajjah Rukiye Sultan.

She also advised reciting the Du‘a found at the end of Dalail al-Khayrat. This is the du‘a recited from Monday until the end (completion/ khatm) of Dala’il al-Khayrat. Read this du‘a with the intention that your prayers are with the people on Arafah in Wuquf, as they stand before Allah ﷻ in supplication and devotion.

We are then encouraged to pray Solatul Arafah, as taught by Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilaniق.

This is a four raka‘at Sunnah prayer performed with one salam, with the intention that Allah ﷻ forgives the pilgrims and includes us in their blessed du‘as.

In each raka‘at, recite:

  • Surah Al-Fatiha — 1 time
  • Surah Al-Ikhlas — 11 times

Additionally, complete Solatul Khusoma, as taught by Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilaniق.

Make the intention that the reward of this prayer be granted to those who may have claims against us on the Day of Judgement.

✦ From Asar to Maghrib:

Turn to Allah ﷻ in sincere repentance.

In his sohbah, Mawlanaق reminded us that sins weigh heavily upon both the body and the soul. Every wrong action, whether committed knowingly or unknowingly, adds to that burden.

The Prophet ﷺ taught us to constantly seek forgiveness by repeating Astaghfirullah again and again. Allah ﷻ, in His infinite mercy, loves to forgive, so we should ask for forgiveness as much as possible.

This blessed day is a precious opportunity to seek forgiveness not only for the sins we are aware of, but also for the countless shortcomings we may not even realise.

Spend this time making heartfelt and sincere du‘as.

The best time for supplication on this day is during the time of Wuquf. Please calculate the corresponding timing according to your own country.

Example:

Wuquf time in Makkah, Saudi Arabia: 12:18pm to 6:57pm Makkah Time

Wuquf time for those observing it in Singapore: 5:18pm to 11:57pm SGT

During this time, make du‘a for:

  • Yourself and your family
  • Your loved ones and those who requested your prayers
  • The Ummah of Rasulullah ﷺ
  • Our beloved Shuyukh

Ask for:

  • Allah ﷻ to accept you spiritually among the Hujjaj (pilgrims).
  • Your needs and well-being in both this world and the Hereafter.
  • Jannah and protection from the Fire.
  • Good health and halal rizq.
  • Hidayah (guidance and understanding) for your loved ones.
  • Passing away with husnul khotimah (good death) and qalbun salim (sound heart).
  • Safety, protection, and peace for the Ummah of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
  • The appearance of Sayyidina Mahdi (AS).

One of the best du’as, which Mawlanaق taught us to recite abundantly:

Rabbana atina fid dunya hasanatan wa fil akhirati hasanatan wa qina ‘adhaban nar.”

“Our Lord ﷻ, grant us good in this world and good in the Hereafter, and protect us from the punishment of the fire.” (2:201)

Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق’s would also supplicate:

“Pray for me that I am not placed in a position to be in need of anyone, pray that I am not confined to my bed, pray that I am not humiliated amongst people, pray that the love of Islam is always in our hearts, and that we are under the banner of Islam, here and in the Hereafter.”

Note: For prayers (namaz), continue to follow your local prayer times as usual. However, for making du‘as during Wuquf, it is best to align with the actual Wuquf time in Arafah.

Please calculate the corresponding time based on your own country, as shown in the example above.

End with Ihda (Dedication).

✦ From Maghrib Onwards:

Break your fast.

Begin reciting the Eid Takbir.

This is the blessed night preceding Eid al-Adha. The Prophet ﷺ would spend the night in worship and remain awake in devotion. It is a night filled with divine mercy, during which sincere duʿas are accepted by Allah ﷻ. It is also regarded as one of the five most sacred nights of the year.

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“Whoever stands in worship during the nights preceding the two Eids, seeking reward from his Lord, his heart will not die on the Day when hearts die.”

[Ibn Majah]

⑨ Keep Excellent Character

Engage wholeheartedly in worship and righteous deeds by increasing in charity, multiplying good actions, maintaining family ties, and serving others with sincerity.

Avoid idle speech, arguments, and disputes, and unnecessary distractions, for these diminish the spirit and reward of this blessed day.

Good character and sincere deeds are beloved to Allah ﷻ and carry immense blessings, especially during these sacred days.

Wednesday, 27th May/ 10 Dhul Hijjah

The Festival of Sacrifice, Eid al-Adha.

It is forbidden to fast on this day.

The Prophet ﷺ summarised how we should spend Eid in a beautiful hadeeth:

“Decorate your Eid with Takbir (Allahu akbar), Tahmid (Alhamdulillah), Tahlil (La ilaha illallah) and Tasbih (Subhanallah).”

Recommended Practices for Eid al-Adha (clickable links):

1) Perform Ghusl (ritual bath) for Eid

On the 10th of Dhul Hijjah, perform ghusl with the intention of reviving the Sunnah of Eid.

For those offering Qurban, remember not to cut your hair or nails until after the sacrifice has been completed.

2) Do not eat before the Eid prayer

It is Sunnah to refrain from eating before the Eid al-Adha prayer and to eat only after returning home.

3) Proceed for the Eid Prayer in the best manner

Pray Solatul Ishraq before proceeding for the Eid prayer.

Ensure that you are in a state of cleanliness, dressed in your best clothing, and for men, wearing some perfume.

If given the choice between praying in a mosque or an open space, choose the open space. The Prophet ﷺ performed the Eid prayer in an open area rather than inside the mosque, making this a Sunnah practice to follow where possible.

As the Eid prayer takes place before the khutbah, do not arrive late and risk missing the prayer.

Likewise, do not leave immediately after the prayer and miss the khutbah.

The same etiquette that applies during the Jumu‘ah khutbah also applies to the Eid khutbah. There should be no talking during the khutbah.

This includes using your phone to message or chit chat. Keep your phone on silent and give your full attention to the Khatib, so that you may receive the complete blessings of the Eid prayer.

If you miss the Eid prayer at the mosque, it should still be prayed in congregation if possible, and completed before the azan of Zuhur.

4) Recite abundant dhikr on the way

Along the way, recite “Subhanallahi wa bihamdi, subhanallahil azeem astaghfirullah” 300 times.

Gift the reward of this recitation to the Ahlul Kubur (those who have passed). Allah ﷻ will also send the light of these recitations to your own grave.

5) Complete the Qurban

Qurban is best performed after the Eid prayer.

After the sacrifice has been completed, Mawlanaق taught us to pray two raka‘at Shukr as soon as possible.

Hajjah Rukiye Sultan also shared the following du‘a to be recited after the Qurban:

Inna salati wa nusuki wa mahyaya wa mamati lillahi Rabbil ‘Alameen.”

“My prayer, my sacrifice, my living and my dying are for Allah ﷻ, the Lord of all worlds.” (06:162)

6) Return home taking a different route

If possible, return home using a different route while reciting the Eid Takbir along the way.

It is said that angels stand at the intersections of the roads, sending salaams and congratulating those who have been granted the blessing of remaining among the practising believers.

7) Continue the Eid Takbir

Continue reciting the Eid Takbir until Asar of 13th Dhul Hijjah.

Beautify these days with abundant remembrance of Allah ﷻ.

8) Do not fast during the Days of Tashreeq

Do not fast from the 10th till the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

Fasting may resume on the 14th and 15th as part of the Sunnah fasts of the White Days.

9) Pray Solatul Khusoma

Pray Solatul Khusoma, as taught by Shaykh Abdul Qadir al-Jilaniق, between Zuhur and Asar.

10) Continue striving in worship

Remember, we are still in the Holiest First Ten Days till Maghrib, so all good deeds are still multiplied up to 700 times, so do not let the time pass frivolously. (e.g. Do not miss Dhuha Prayers after Eid Prayers.)

11) Spend the remainder of the day in dhikr, charity, generosity, and good actions

Thursday, Friday, Saturday, 28th to 30th May/ 11 to 13 Dhul Hijjah

These are the Days of Tashreeq, during which fasting is prohibited.

Qurban must be completed by the 13th of Dhul Hijjah.

You may continue reciting the Eid Takbir until Asar of the 13th.

Sunday and Monday, 31st May and 1st June/ 14 and 15 Dhul Hijjah

These days are known as the White Days, during which it is Sunnah to fast.

This practice originates with Sayyidina Adam (AS). After he began eating the food of this world, his skin darkened from the radiance it once had in Jannah. He asked Sayyidina Jibril (AS) how to remove this darkness, and he was taught to fast three days each month.

You may also make intention to combine this fast with any qadha (missed) fasts you may have.

For Sunnah fasts, the intention may be made anytime during the day. The Prophet ﷺ used to return home after Fajr prayers, and if no food was found at home, he would then make the intention to fast.

Thursday, 4th June/ 18 Dhul Hijjah

The Urs of Sayyidina ‘Uthman ibn ‘Affanر, the third Caliph of Rasulullah ﷺ.

Saturday, 13th June/ 27 Dhul Hijjah

The Gregorian Birthday of Shaykh Bahauddin Adil, the son of Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق.

Monday, 15th June/ 29 Dhul Hijjah

It is recommended to fast on the last day of Dhul Hijjah to conclude the Hijri year in a state of fasting, followed by reciting this du’a three times:

It is narrated that Shaytan says:

“We spent the whole year striving against him, yet he ruined all our efforts in a single hour!”

— Taken from The Perfect Ascents of the Naqshbandi Dashestani Hakkani Litanies and Duties by Mawlana Sheikh Abdullah al-Faiz ad-Daghestaniق.

May Allah ﷻ accept our fasting, prayers, dhikr, charity, and du‘as.

May we emerge from these blessed days of Dhul Hijah purified, renewed, and closer to Him ﷻ.

May He ﷻ envelop us in His infinite mercy and forgiveness, and grant us the honour of being spiritually present at Hajj, insyaAllah.

This guide has been compiled from the teachings of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan, whose legacy continues at our Zawiyah at A’Posh Bizhub, Singapore, through his representatives, Sidi Shalihin, Ismail, and Syed Muhammad, who humbly carry forward the Naqshbandi path he laid with love and adab.

It also encompasses the teachings of great masters such as Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilaniق, Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammadق, Shaykh Adnan Kabbaniق, Shaykh Raja Ashman Shahق, various classical and contemporary kitabs along with the writings of Awliya and scholars of the Naqshbandi Way.

As such, it is intended as a comprehensive guide to the devotions one may practice in these blessed months.

However, as Mawlanaق has often reminded us, any form of worship is accepted by Allah ﷻ, no matter how small. We should always strive to do good, even in small amounts, for what matters most is sincerity and consistency.

One should not feel disheartened or overwhelmed and abandon worship altogether. No matter the measure of our deeds, our duty is to keep striving to improve in this beautiful Way. We are truly blessed to have Mawlanaق’s guidance always.

We pray this guide brings benefit, provides clarity, and supports you on your journey.

We seek forgiveness for any shortcomings or errors.
