Be Grateful for the Favor of Īmān

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

We must always make shukr to Allāh ﷻ. A person who is on the way that Allāh ﷻ loves must always be grateful, for Allāh ﷻ guides whomever He ﷻ wants and leads astray whomever He ﷻ wants. His ﷻ work cannot be interfered with, His ﷻ wisdom cannot be comprehended. No one else can give what He ﷻ gives.

Therefore, a person on this way must make shukr. And with gratitude, blessings perpetuate. This is the greatest blessing. As it has been said, ‘وَبِالشُّكْرِ تَدُوم النَّعَم’, ‘Wa bi sh-shukri tadūmu n-ni’am’, ‘With thankfulness do blessings perpetuate.’ With gratitude, blessings last forever.

The favor of īmān, the favor of ṭarīqah, the favor of sharī’ah – being on that way is a great favor from Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. It is a gift bestowed upon us. That gift brings us eternal happiness in the Hereafter. And in this world, in shā’a Llāh, some will taste the sweetness of this beauty and goodness.

Once Allāh ﷻ grants them that taste, nothing else will seem good to them. They will hate sins and evils. Even if they fall into sin or evil, they won’t cling to them. They will want to be free from them.

Many people in this time, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, become accustomed to bad things. Getting used to bad things makes it difficult to give them up. They think they are finding pleasure in them because of their lack of īmān. But that’s not the case at all. It’s like seawater; when someone drinks seawater, they become even more thirsty and want more. In the end, they burst. It has no benefit, no end.

Therefore, may Allāh ﷻ protect us. Shukr to Allāh ﷻ for these favors. May Allāh ﷻ make this favor perpetual for us all, in shā’a Llāh. May He ﷻ also grant those who don’t have it, in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all from our egos, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allāhi t-tawfīq.

Al-Fatiha.
