Our Years Shouldn’t Be Wasted

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

May the first day of Muḥarram be blessed and auspicious, in shā’a Llāh. This year will be better, in shā’a Llāh. We make du’ā’ that this will be the year of the appearance, the good tidings foretold by our ‎Prophet ﷺ, in shā’a Llāh.

Qiyāmah is near. People are heedless, they don’t talk about qiyāmah at all. They think it’s far away. But it is near; days and years pass by in an instant. The Hereafter is drawing near. Of course, everyone’s own qiyāmah is the moment they close their eyes; because when a person opens their eyes, they find themselves on the Day of Resurrection. Therefore, this is very important; those who know its value will have prepared for the Hereafter.

Today is the first of Muḥarram. In shā’a Llāh, if we live to see it, by this time next year, a year will have passed in the blink of an eye. Last year we were on ḥajj, and this year another ḥajj season has passed; the days really do pass in an instant. Every moment that passes while on the way of Allāh ﷻ is beneficial; it becomes provision for the Hereafter, they say. The journey to the Hereafter is long.

Therefore, these years, these days, should not be wasted; they should all be spent in the way of Allāh ﷻ. It is necessary to remember Allāh ﷻ; because mentioning (making dhikr of) Allāh ﷻ means remembering Allāh ﷻ. Of course, merely pronouncing Allāh’s ﷻ name with the tongue is also a form of dhikr, but dhikr is also remembering Him ﷻ and keeping Him ﷻ constantly in the heart.

You must constantly remember Allāh ﷻ so that your hereafter may be prosperous, so that days, hours, and seconds do not pass in vain. To attain the intercession of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, it is absolutely necessary to remember this. Every minute, every second, we should think, “Allāh ﷻ is with us, Allāh ﷻ sees us, Allāh ﷻ is a witness to our actions.”

A person who acts accordingly will not have wasted their days. You say, “The year passed in an instant”; yes, it passed, but it was a full and meaningful year; not empty, not filled with sin. Of course, there are sins; everyone has sins. However, after repenting and seeking forgiveness, they too will be erased with the permission of Allāh ﷻ.

May Allāh ﷻ bless our year; may it be a blessed year, the year we hope for, in shā’a Llāh. May it be the year in which Islām finds victory, and the year in which Mahdi ‘alayhi s-salām and ‘Isa ‘alayhi s-salām, as given good tidings by our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, will come, in shā’a Llāh. This is what we desire. If we attain this, we will have attained Allāh’s ﷻ promise, in shā’a Llāh.

In the current state of the world, there seems to be no salvation; it is sinking deeper day by day. Only when the Mahdi ‘alayhi s-salām comes, in shā’a Llāh, this will improve. There is no other way for it to improve. May Allāh ﷻ protect us, and may our new year be blessed and auspicious, in shā’a Llāh.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
