Love one another and spread the Azan

A’uzubillah himinsh shaitan nirrajeem

Bismillahir Rahman-nir Raheem

Assalamu’alaikum wrh wbkt

• Maulana began by quoting this hadees from the Seal of Prophets, who is Prophet to all Children of Adam and Jinn, “None of you will truly have faith, until he loves for his brother, what he loves for himself.” Maulana said, “Write this Holy hadees with golden letters, and look at it constantly! To elaborate on this hadees completely will take us till Judgement Day, as this hadees contains so much priceless advice.”

• This hadees is a vast ocean of knowledge, for it contains teachings that bring happiness, pleasure, relief and bonding within the Muslim community. One who practises it, will be saved from the Fire of Hell, he will be raised from the lowest levels (asfala safileen), to the highest levels of faith, it will carry Muslims from the worst behaviour, to become from amongst the best ones.

لَقَدۡ خَلَقۡنَا ٱلۡإِنسَـٰنَ فِىٓ أَحۡسَنِ تَقۡوِيمٍ۬. ثُمَّ رَدَدۡنَـٰهُ أَسۡفَلَ سَـٰفِلِينَ

Surely We created man of the best stature, then we reduced him to the lowest of the low (Quran 95:4-5)

• This hadees means, one who ignores his neighbours, cannot acquire true faith. The minimum number of neighbours we must take care of, and be concerned about, is forty. Ask, how they are doing? Are they facing problems? Financial constraints? Illness? Difficulties? Have they been overcome with suffering? We must take note, we must be concerned!

• Ideally, every forty homes of believers must contribute money to form a fund or local collection – called Baitul Mal – which is built on contributions and is aimed at helping the less fortunate within that Community of forty homes. When believers come together to join hands, and to assist one another, especially in financial matters (eg providing food for old or bedridden ones, helping widows and orphans, assisting poor members of the community etc), Allah’s mercy descends and envelops the entire Community who have joined hands to support one another and to care for each others’ needs. That is true humanity. So every forty homes of believers should gather and do this. Allah sends them heavenly mercy, which a Spiritual refreshment for their Souls. A Community that is not enveloped by Allah’s mercy, will have enmity and hatred amongst themselves, and they will hurt and kill one another, as we are witnessing daily today.

• When believers form small Communities of forty households like this, they should also set aside a small area where they can pray in congregation, a place where the Azan is called out at each prayer time, five time daily. If Muslims across the world form into such small close-knit Communities, helping one another, and calling out the Azan amongst themselves, then the call to prayer will reverberate across the face of this earth, from North to South, and from East to West.

• That must be our main aim – that the cry of Allahu Akbar resonates all over this earth without stopping. Never did a day pass in Rasulullah’s (saw) lifetime, where he was not striving to spread the call of Azan on earth. How did Islam reach Cyprus? Ottoman Sultans strove hard to bring the Azan there. We must strive hard so that Allah’s name be called out across the face of this earth, throughout the earth’s 24 hour rotation on its axis! What are we doing to spread the Azan today? Nothing.

• Islam frowns on the formation of huge towns and cities, as people become impersonal and distant from one another. In large communities, the special bond is lost, people no longer look out for one another, everyone is drowned by his own problems, and is blind to his neighbour’s difficulties. Humanity is lost, and instead of helping those who have fallen, Maulana says, people are cruelly kicking those who have fallen – there is no more pity or mercy in such large communities.

• And although large cities have a few grand mosques in which the Azan is called, it is more pleasing to Allah that thousands of Azans be made across the country, by every group of forty Muslim households, who have come together, to worship, with love. That act is like a huge ‘banner’ proclaiming Islam to the entire world. It is like a gigantic flag, a live advertisement, announcing the greatness of Allah Almighty.

• Not only will we be questioned if we disregard the Pillars of Islam, Muslims who do not do their utmost to exhibit and project the glory and beauty of Islam to be unbelievers, will also be held accountable on Judgement Day. So even if you have a small Community of just three families, gather together, help one another, call out the Azan and pray together.

• Muslims must unite, regardless of their race and nationality! Our honour comes not from our nationalities – whether we be Turkish, Pakistani or Arab. No. Our honour is when we can put all that aside and say, “I am a Muslim, I am the servant of Allah.”

• Unite oh believers, join hands to form small Communities based on principles of Love, call out Azan and pray together. And when you are asked to contribute to the Community’s Baitul Mal, give freely of your wealth to help others, do not be miserly.

Commentary

• In today’s dog-eat-dog Soul-less world of greed and self-centredness, this Suhbah is such a simple and beautiful way to put humanity back into humans. By forming small Communities, where we look out for each other, where we look after each other, we are forming strong ties of love and mercy, and this service to mankind is called Hablu minan naas.

• A united Community that can put aside petty racial and nationalistic differences, can then pray together as a congregation, and that is Hablu minallah, service to Allah.

• So that single hadees that Maulana mentioned at the start of the Suhbah, encompasses service to God and service to Mankind. It encompasses personal worship and congregational worship. It encompasses hidden worship (charity in the community) and worship that is meant to be exhibited, to demonstrate the beauty of Islam to observers (Azan). MasyaAllah!

• So the message is short and sweet. Take heed of those around you. Help those you can. Unite with family, friends and members of your community to help one another and pray together. Contribute to the well-being of your neighbours. And put aside racism and nationalism – be united by faith!
