Be in This World as a Traveller

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, don’t forget that everyone will go to the place where Allah Azza wa Jalla made him come from. There, he will give an account of what he did in dunyā. Every person, whatever he did: if he did good, he will find good. If he did badness, he will be held accountable for it. Why did you do badness? Why did you harm people? Why did you oppress yourself? So this place you will go to is the place where you will be held accountable in front of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla.

Therefore, dunyā is not permanent. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam also says in the Ḥadīth Sharīf, live in dunyā as though you were a stranger, like a person who belongs to no one. Be as a passerby, as a traveler, he ﷺ says. Because this dunyā is not a homeland. Our homeland is the ākhirah. Dunyā is a place for our deeds, for our deeds of ākhirah to be good. It is a place where you will collect. The good deeds, rewards and goodness you will collect for ākhirah are in dunyā. When you go to ākhirah, nothing will remain. If you don’t have a righteous child after you, if you don’t leave any good deeds, if you don’t leave any Sadaqah Jāriyah, nothing will come to you.

Therefore, while you are in dunyā, think about everything and think about ākhirah. Then put your affairs in order accordingly. Put your affairs of ākhirah in order. Worldly affairs must be for ākhirah. If your worldly affairs are for the sake of dunyā, you will leave them and go. If they are for ākhirah, you will find them; you will find them in ākhirah. You will see their benefit. But those who work for dunyā will never benefit in ākhirah. Especially if someone goes on the way of kufr, his regret will be worse than hell for him. Burning in hell is nothing compared to that regret.

Ākhirah must be our aim. Consider yourself as dead, says Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Indeed, a person lives and moves with the power of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. If Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla took that trust, he cannot do anything. Even if the whole world was his, he couldn’t buy a breath with it; it would be over.

Therefore, the Muslim should always think about ākhirah, and do his worldly works accordingly. You can do your worldly work; there’s no problem. But the intention must be the pleasure of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, it must be on His ﷻ way and it must be with His ﷻ barakah. This is Ḥaqq for Muslims. Its benefit – you either benefit or you are harmed. What is beneficial is being on the way of Allāh ﷻ. The path of harm is the path of shayṭān, or to leave the way of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla and not to value it. It is also wrong and regretful.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May Allāh ﷻ not separate you from the right way, this is a beautiful way. Because in the time we live in, there are many cheaters. The human shayṭāns are worse than the shaytan. People are no more cheated by shayṭān. They are deceived by his own people. People deceive people. They are worse than shayṭān. They show things that are not true as the truth. They also consider the truth inexistent. May Allāh ﷻ protect people from their evil. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
