Worship Allāh ﷻ with Sincerity

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

وَمَا أُمِرُوا إِلَّا لِيَعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ حُنَفَاءَ

(Qur’ān 98:05)

“Wa Mā ‘Umirū ‘Illā Liya`budūAllaha Mukhlişīna Lahu Ad-Dīna Ĥunafā’a”

“And they were commanded not, but that they should worship Allāh, and worship none but Him Alone (abstaining from ascribing partners to Him).” Sadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla ordered people to worship Him ﷻ with sincerity. They must make shukr to Allāh ﷻ for the favors He ﷻ gives. With sincerity. Who does it sincerely has a high rank just like they have īmān. There are many Muslims, but only few have sincerity.

Who lives the religion of Islām as he likes becomes far from sincerity. He does what his ego wants. He makes the ḥalāl ḥarām and the ḥarām ḥalāl. And he lives by claiming to be Muslim as he likes. Some people don’t do even that. They neither pray, nor worship. They are only called Muslim. Most people have become like that.

May Allāh ﷻ make us from the sincere ones. That is the highest rank. The rank of sincerity is a great rank. Looking different from the outside than from the inside is not sincerity. That is the state of normal people.

As the state of people is not sincere, wherever the wind blows, they turn and fly in that direction. Then another wind comes from the other side. It takes them somewhere else again. As there is no sincerity, they can go anywhere. They can believe in anything. And who has no sincerity believes in rather bad things than good things.

Therefore, it is ordered to be sincere, to worship Allāh ﷻ purely, to reach the presence of Allāh ﷻ with it and attain the highest ranks in paradise. This must be the goal of people. As it is Allāh’s ﷻ order, we must obey Allāh’s ﷻ order. And that order is difficult to be done alone. Few are those who do it; not even one in a million can do it by himself.

Therefore, there’s no need to suffer much. Coming to ṭarīqah and following the way of sincere people is easiness. People look badly at ṭarīqah. What is ṭarīqah? It is upon this order to worship Allāh ﷻ with sincerity. This is what ṭarīqah means. As we said, who doesn’t join ṭarīqah gets scattered away here and there as they like.

Ṭarīqah is good from all sides. It has no bad sides. But those who are with shayṭān come against it. There are religious ones as well. They say they don’t need anyone else and that they are sufficient to themselves. But they follow someone too. And those they follow have not even a bit of sincerity. Therefore, they should stay away from them.

Any ṭarīqah – There are many ṭarīqahs. But from the aspect of sincerity, the one who avoids hypocricy for the pleasure of Allāh ﷻ is Naqshbandī ṭarīqah. It is the strongest one. Therefore, following it – other ṭarīqahs are also alright. Some people’s nature and inclination may not be be suitable for the Naqshbandī ṭarīqah. Their hearts may like other ṭarīqahs. That is alright. Any ṭarīqah is good.

But people must certainly follow something. When away from ṭarīqah, they are away from sincerity. No matter how much they talk about jamā‘ah, the sincerity of jamā‘ah and the sincerity of ṭarīqah are different. Because your jamā‘ah doesn’t lead you anywhere. It has appeared somehow and goes on.

But ṭarīqah leads to our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Therefore, it is with his ﷺ protection. We are on his ﷺ way with Allāh’s ﷻ permission. May Allāh ﷻ make us all from the sincere and pure servants, in shā’a Llāh. May we not have badness towards anyone.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
