What Is Paradise?

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

وَالَّذِينَ آمَنُوا وَعَمِلُوا الصَّالِحَاتِ أُولَٰئِكَ أَصْحَابُ الْجَنَّةِ ۖ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ

(Qur’ān 02:82)

“Wa-alladhīna āmanū wa ʿamilu ṣ-ṣāliḥāti ulāika aṣḥābu l-jannati hum fīhā khālidūna”

“And those who believe and do righteous good deeds, they are dwellers of Paradise, they will dwell therein forever.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, those who believe and do good deeds will be in Paradise forever. What is Paradise? It is what people of this time have never imagined, seen, or heard anything like. That is the state of Paradise.

If people compare it to this world and wonder what they will do there – many sometimes think that way, “What will we do there?” Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla calls Paradise “Dāru s-Surūr,” (Abode of Happiness) “Dāru s-Salām” (Abode of Peace). It is a place of beauty. A place where there is no conflict or turmoil.

Before entering Paradise, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said that whoever drinks from the Pool of Kawthar, nothing of the bad qualities of this world will remain within them. No jealousy, no ill will (intentions), no shamelessness, no impudence. Nothing bad remains within a person at that time.

They enter Paradise, and in that state, they get along well with the people there. They do not feel any unease or discomfort from. Nothing bad happens to them. They too will live eternally in Paradise. There is no fear, no anxiety, no sorrow, no boredom. That is Paradise.

People seek Paradise in this world. Don’t look for Paradise here. This is a place of tests. Allāh ﷻ can give you happiness in this world too. That happens by Allāh’s ﷻ decree and Allāh’s ﷻ grace. But no matter how much, this world cannot be compared to Paradise. It is not comparable at all.

When a person has a wife, children, and good people in this world, that too becomes like a part of Paradise. A wife who obeys him, children who are righteous, good people who do good deeds—they are also a part of Paradise, a blessing from Allāh ﷻ.

But if your wife is bad, doesn’t obey you, and has nothing to do with religion or īmān, and your children are the same, they are even more like a part of Hell in dunyā. Therefore, may Allāh ﷻ protect us.

Now we live in this world. In this end of times, everyone is molded into the same pattern. Even if you’re on one side of the world, they’ve made you think the same way as someone on the other side. Through films, writings, and everything else, it’s all the same. What is it? Everyone will eat the same things, everyone will read the same things, they won’t work.

And regarding the hereafter, they’ll think the same thing; about what to do and so. There is no such way in Islām. Everyone should have their own thoughts. Everyone should turn to Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. They should use these worldly things as a means to improve their ākhirah.

These people want the world for the sake of the world, to improve it. Therefore, what they do is useless. No matter what they achieve, no matter what they do, they are never satisfied. They are never content. But a Muslim, with the permission of Allāh ﷻ, will find happiness in this world and happiness in the hereafter.

May Allāh ﷻ grant us the paradise of both worlds, in shā’a Llāh. If you spend time with good people, you are always in Paradise, Allāh ﷻ willing. You will be in Paradise in both dunyā and ākhirah. These gatherings are gatherings of Paradise. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says that the gatherings of people who are on the way of Allāh ﷻ are gardens of Paradise.

He ﷺ says, “If you come across these gardens of Paradise, take from them, enjoy them, be happy there. Enter them, and you will be happy.” They asked, “Where are these places?” He ﷺ replied, “These are gatherings of knowledge, gatherings for ṣuḥbah, places where you gather with believers who are on the way of Allāh ﷻ; these are the places of Paradise.”

May Allāh ﷻ increase [the approach to] our Paradise, in shā’a Llāh. May people come here to the Paradise of dunyā; this is the bridge towards the Paradise of ākhirah. In shā’a Llāh, may Allāh ﷻ give us all strength. We will all be together in Paradise, Allāh ﷻ willing. There is no doubt about that.

Allāh ﷻ says in a Ḥadīth Qudsī, “I am as My servant thinks of Me.” And we always think that Allāh ﷻ will make us enter Paradise. Allāh ﷻ will not reject us. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is the Most Generous of the generous. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
