Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ
(Qur’ān 21:30)
“Wa-jaʿalnā mina l-māʾi kulla shayʾin ḥayy”
“And We have made from water every living thing.”
وَأَنزَلْنَا مِنَ السَّمَاءِ مَاءً طَهُورًا
(Qur’ān 25:48)
“Wa anzalnā mina s-samāi māan ṭahūran”
“and We send down from the sky pure water.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says in these āyat, “We created everything from water. We gave life to everything with water.” And “What We send down from the sky is clean water.” Cleanliness is the foundation of Islām. It is for ablution and ghusl. We cannot do without it. There is both physical and spiritual life with it.
In physical life, certainly, nothing can be without water. Nothing can grow where there is no water. There cannot be life. Therefore, rain falls down with the power of Allāh ﷻ. Certainly, He ﷻ makes it rain when He ﷻ wants. And He ﷻ doesn’t, if He ﷻ doesn’t want.
“It happens so and so.” That is another matter. If Allāh ﷻ wants, as He ﷻ said, He ﷻ can evaporize it and it becomes a cloud not coming down to you. He ﷻ can make it rain in the middle of sea and not above you. What can you do then? Let’s see.
Therefore, we must make shukr to Allāh ﷻ for these blessings. We must know that everything is a blessing from Allāh ﷻ. We must appreciate that blessing. We must show respect to that blessing. We must make shukr to Allāh ﷻ.
Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam in his ﷺ holy ḥadīth sharīf cursed those who urinated in flowing water, in rivers and so. Cursing is not an easy thing. They were directly cursed. Therefore, it is a great blessing. Shukr to Allāh ﷻ. For the barakah of our Shaykh, the barakah of this month and these days, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gave us this blessing.
And the spiritual side of it is that we use it in our prayers and ablution, in various things; standing clean in the presence of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is done with this blessed water. We can’t do without it. You cannot wash with petrol or diesel. You cannot wash with alcohol. They don’t make you clean. They are not clean. You can’t use them.
But with this blessed water, both your ablution and ghusl is made. You receive spiritual rizq then. Without ablution, without ghusl, spirituality doesn’t come. “I didn’t take ablution. I am clean. I do it in my heart.” Do you pray? “No, I don’t.” Why don’t you pray? “I cannot do it.” They don’t take ablution. They don’t make ghusl. Many people are like this now. Without it, nothing good happens to them.
Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said not to waste water. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam used to make ablution and ghusl with a small thing. Mawlānā Shaykh Nāẓim would do the same. He could make ablution with just a glass of water. And he would make ghusl not with a bucket but with a small bottle. He would show so much respect to it.
Therefore, people nowadays are not aware of it. They are wasting and polluting it. And then there is no barakah. May Allāh ﷻ give us barakah. Shukr to Allāh ﷻ for these blessings.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
