Value of Time in Ramadhan

In Loving Memory of Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan – Ramadhan Series

Here is a short synopsis of a Sohbah given by Almarhum Sheikh Abdul Sattar Khan on 14 April 2022:

وَلَوْ تَرَىٰٓ إِذِ ٱلْمُجْرِمُونَ نَاكِسُوا۟ رُءُوسِهِمْ عِندَ رَبِّهِمْ رَبَّنَآ أَبْصَرْنَا وَسَمِعْنَا فَٱرْجِعْنَا نَعْمَلْ صَـٰلِحًا إِنَّا مُوقِنُونَ ١٢

“If only you could see the wicked hanging their heads in shame before their Lord, crying: ‘Our Lord! We have now seen and heard, so send us back, and we will do good. We truly have sure faith now!’”

(Surah As-Sajdah 32:12)

Every soul shall, without doubt, taste death. For most people, it brings forth unsettled affairs and the revelation of unfulfilled duties.

As mentioned in Surah As-Sajdah above, doomed are those who, at death, awaken to an eternity of unbearable difficulties for having neglected the purpose of this fleeting life and being left to compensate for it in the afterlife.

A great heaviness awaits those whose graves, instead of being places of peace, become pits of eternal regret. This marks the beginning of atonement for all unfinished business.

The Holy Prophet ﷺ warned, that curses befall the one who reaches Ramadhan yet gains nothing from Allah’s ﷻ Mercy and Forgiveness.

Just as a person is formed only once in the darkness of their mother’s womb, cell by cell until they are ready for life on Earth, so too is this life the only opportunity to build and make preparations for the Hereafter.

There is no way one can return to the womb to correct any defects or deformation, and likewise, there will be no course of returning an unprepared soul to rectify mistakes, for the Akhirah.

In the afterlife, every hardship is insurmountable, and every pleasure unfathomable, in comparison to this life.

Therefore, as Mawlanaق reminded us time and again, take Ramadhan seriously. Let us put forth our best efforts and, at the very least, sincerely yearn for Allah’s ﷻ Mercy and Forgiveness.

Beg to be shown our mistakes, rectify them, and settle all our incomplete affairs and debts before our time comes to move on to the next Alam.

May Allah ﷻ grant us to be amongst those to receive His ﷻ Divine Forgiveness this Ramadhan and to be in His ﷻ Pleasure, as the fortunate, Prepared Ones passing on to the Akhirah.
