Higher education doesn’t always lead you higher: 16th December 2010
Maulana tackles the thorny issue of people who spend many years pursuing higher education. He explains the need for Muslims to seek out jobs that are in demand – even though these may be the blue-collar, less glamorous avenues of employment. Honour in Islam is in seeking halal rizq; there is no greater honour in being a lawyer, as compared to working as a plumber, yet people nowadays shun such manual jobs, due to pride and ignorance. What is the point of being an unemployed graduate? So much that is taught in University today is irrelevant and of no benefit to society.
