Know Every Night as Laylatu l-Qadr

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Shukr to Allāh ﷻ, we are once again in these blessed days, the last days of Ramaḍān.

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said that Laylatu l-Qadr is most frequently observed during these blessed nights when Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n was revealed. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam also said that it mostly occurs in the ten days following the 20th of Ramaḍān. He ﷺ also mentioned that it can occur more often on odd-numbered days.

It is Allāh’s ﷻ wisdom that He ﷻ has concealed Laylatu l-Qadr. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said that if everyone knew when Laylatu l-Qadr is, they would perform worship only on that night, and not on any other. Therefore, Laylatu l-Qadr can occur on any day or night of the year, but mostly during Ramaḍān, and specifically in the last ten days of Ramaḍān.

That’s why, i‘tikāf and more acts of worship are performed during these last ten days. The barakah of Ramaḍān is greater in those last ten days. Those who haven’t given their Zakāt or Fitrah can give it in those ten days. They will also receive more reward.

The elders have said that every night should be considered as Laylat al-Qadr so that other days are not in vain. Also, consider every person as Khidr ‘alayhi s-salām. Because he too is hidden, and he can appear to people in different forms.

This is so that one does not unknowingly show disrespect or lack of adab towards someone, even if it is difficult, one should endure and show respect to everyone for the sake of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. When done for the sake of Allāh ﷻ, it becomes acceptable in the sight of Allāh ﷻ.

Similarly, Laylatu l-Qadr. As it is mentioned in Sūrat Al-Qadr, it is the night on which Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n was revealed upon our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. It descended in that night. Of course, the Qur’an is the eternal word of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla.

By the wisdom of Allāh ﷻ, that divine word was revealed in parts. It was completed in 23 years by our Holy ‎Prophet ﷺ. But its manifestation and entirety was revealed to our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam in that one night.

After that, it continued being revealed gradually until it was completed, until the whole religion was completed, until Islām was completed. It was completed as Islām, the religion of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, and it was declared that there is no other religion besides it. Indeed, since Adam ‘alayhi s-salām, Islām has been that one religion, the only one.

Sometimes these foolish people talk about interfaith dialogue; Christian, Jewish, Muslim. They are all one religion; there is no such thing as dialogue. The divinely ordained religion of the Prophets is Islām. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, ‘إِنَّ الدِّينَ عِندَ اللَّهِ الْإِسْلَامُ’, ‘Inna d-Dīna inda Allāhi l-Islām’, ‘Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islām.’ (Qur’ān 03:19).

There is no religion other than Islām. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla sent prophets one after another to complete it. They all say the same things because the source is one. It is not different. There is no other religion. Other religions are not a religion anyways. They are something they invented according to their own minds, to satisfy themselves.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created man. He ﷻ created him as a servant. He ﷻ created him to know his Lord. Now, those who are religious, who are upon the true religion know their Lord. Those who are irreligious, that is, those who have no religion, turn to other things.

They strive to worship other things, saying, “Let’s worship something else. Let’s worship this idol, let’s worship this stone, let’s worship this statue. Let’s worship this insect, this animal.” Therefore, religion is certainly something that Allāh ﷻ has given to humanity. They must find that religion. They must accept it.

There are people who consider themselves very intelligent. They don’t like others. They are in a strange state. Their state is not that of an intelligent person. An intelligent person turns to Allāh ﷻ, knows Allāh ﷻ, worships Him ﷻ, and fulfills His ﷻ commands.

Therefore, shukr to Allāh ﷻ, this blessed Ramaḍān is full of barakah. Many miracles have happened in this month. The greatest miracle, of course, is Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. This is the greatest miracle of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. The word of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, the word of Truth, Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n was revealed in this month.

May Allāh ﷻ bestow its barakah upon us. As our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said, whoever feeds a fasting person with ḥalāl money every Ramaḍān, Allāh ﷻ will honor him, and the angels will honor him.

And on Laylatu l-Qadr, Jibrīl ‘alayhi s-salām will ask Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla for forgiveness for him, and he will give him the good tidings that it has been accepted.

May Allāh ﷻ make us all among them, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
