Do Not Be Sad, Allāh ﷻ Is with Us

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

لَا تَحْزَنْ إِنَّ اللَّهَ مَعَنَا

(Qur’ān 09:40)

“Lā Taĥzan ‘Inna Allāha Ma`anā”

“Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us,” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla tell us in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n about our Holy ‎Prophet ﷺ and Sayyidinā Abu Bakr. Sayyidinā Abu Bakr was in distress during the migration. When they were in the cave, and they seemed to be caught, Sayyidinā Abu Bakr became worried. Not for himself, of course, but for our Prophet ﷺ.

He ﷺ said, “Do not grieve, do not worry. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is with us.” Once Allāh ﷻ is with a person, once the believer knows this, sadness, grief, and gloom will not affect him. Of course, these things may come, but a person should immediately turn to Allāh ﷻ.

This beautiful āyah and everything in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, from beginning to end, shows everything, good and bad. The way of our Prophet ﷺ, his ﷺ beautiful way, is happiness and goodness for us.

Now, because we live in the end times, there is all kinds of oppression and evil everywhere. It can affect anyone. Therefore, we need to think about this. Allāh ﷻ is with us. If Allāh ﷻ is with you, nothing can affect you.

Sayyidinā Bilal al-Habashi, even with the scorching sun, with the hot things placed on his back and without being given anything, would say, “Allāh ﷻ, Ahad. Allāh ﷻ is one, Allāh ﷻ is one.” What he endured was nothing to him. It had no effect on him because he was with Allāh ﷻ.

What affected him greatly was the separation from our Holy ‎Prophet ﷺ. Because Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla granted him to be in the presence of His ﷻ beloved servant. Therefore, after the passing of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, he could not stay in Madinah and went to Damascus. And he passed away in Damascus.

So, the things that will affect a believer in this world are the matters of faith. What remains after that is not important. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. We should protect our īmān, in shā’a Llāh.

Now, there is all kinds of oppression. If you talk about Muslims, they are oppressing people worse than the unbelievers. What unbelievers do is already obvious. What should we do? What we should do is seek refuge in Allāh ﷻ, be with Allāh ﷻ. Allāh ﷻ is victorious. “وَاللَّهُ غَالِبٌ عَلَىٰ أَمْرِهِ”, “Wa-Llāhu ghālibun ‘alá amrih”, “Wa Allāhu Ghālibun `Alá ‘Amrihi”. (Qur’ān 12:21). Lā Ghāliba illā Llāh (There is no victor but Allāh ﷻ).

After being with Allāh ﷻ, no one can touch you or harm you with the permission of Allah. ‘وَأُفَوِّضُ أَمْرِي إِلَى اللَّهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ بَصِيرٌ بِالْعِبَادِ’, ‘Wa ‘Ufawwidu ‘Amrī ila Allāhi, ‘Inna Allāha Basīrun Bil-‘Ibād’, ‘And I entrust my affair to Allah . Indeed, Allah is Seeing of [His] servants.’ (Qur’ān 40:44). This is what Sayyidinā Yaqūb ‘alayhi s-salām said.

Therefore, after being with Allāh ﷻ during these difficult times, and remembering the companions and prophets, our situation is nothing. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said, “I am the Prophet who suffered the most.” He ﷺ suffered for the sake of Allāh ﷻ and for his ﷺ Ummah. Therefore, after becoming one of his ﷺ Ummah, you have attained the greatest blessing.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May He ﷻ not test us. Tests are not easy. Some people unknowingly desire or seek tests. “Beware. Do not ask for it,” says our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. The mashāyikh also say so. The test is difficult. The test is not easy.

Therefore, we cannot endure the test. Ask for beneficence. There are two kinds of grace of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. There is beneficence, and there is a test. Therefore, ask for more of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla’s beneficence. May Allāh ﷻ grant us all from His ﷻ beneficence, in shā’a Llāh.

For the honor of this blessed month of Ramaḍān, may Allāh ﷻ keep us away from evil people. May we not be tested by them. May their evil turn back on them, in shā’a Llāh. Because there are many evil people, many who want to torment others. Since that is the case, may their own torment turn back on them. May it reverse upon on them.

We don’t ask for anything. We ask Allāh ﷻ for mercy and compassion. We ask Allāh ﷻ for His ﷻ barakah, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
