Ṭarīqah Is All Adab

A‘ūdhu BiLlāhi Minash-shayṭāni r-rajīm. BismiLlāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm.

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:

‘وَإِنَّكَ لَعَلَىٰ خُلُقٍ عَظِيمٍ’,

‘Wa-innaka la-‘alá khuluqin ‘aẓīm’,

‘And indeed, you are of a great moral character.’ (Qur’ān 68:04). Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘aẓīm.

Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla is showing the attribute of our Holy Prophet ﷺ. His ﷺ greatest attribute is Adab.

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ has the most Adab among people. Who wants to join Tariqah must follow the way of our Holy Prophet ﷺ. If he doesn’t follow the way of Adab, he should not join Tariqah at all.

We are saying it here once again. What is the opposite of Tariqah? It is Wahhabism and Salafism. Lack of Adab is their biggest feature. A person who says he is in Tariqah but does not have Adab should not strive in vain. Because the first rule in Tariqah is Adab.

Grandshaykh Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah ad-Daghestani used to make Mawlana Shaykh Nazim write this down:

“الطَّرِيقَةُ كُلِّهَا آدَاب”,

“At-ṭarīqah Kulluha ‘Adaab”,

“Ṭarīqah is all good manners.”

Tariqah is all based on Adab. Without Adab, don’t come to Tariqah. Go and wander somewhere else. You don’t need it here. Without Adab, you won’t have anything. Tariqah won’t bring you any benefit.What is Adab? Everything shown. Adab is that you must take permission. It is written in Qur’an ‘Azimu sh-Shan. When you go somewhere, don’t jump in through the door and window before asking for permission. Enter from the door. Ask for permission out of Adab. If they give permission, enter. If they don’t give permission, don’t fight the owner of the house asking “Why are you not letting me in? Why don’t you let me come in?” Don’t fight with others. If they don’t give you permission, even if there is no excuse, you must go away. You should not go in by force. This is not upon Adab. In everything, whether you are giving or taking, if that is the place or belonging of someone else, you must ask for permission. If they don’t give you permission, they don’t have to. If you take it by force, you will make a sin. You will oppose the order.

Tariqah is the most beautiful way in the world. It is the light for humanity. Who doesn’t obey it gets no profit but loss. May Allah ﷻ help us. May we have Adab inshaAllah. It is the attribute of our Holy Prophet ﷺ. May we dress ourselves with that attribute insha’Allah.
