Wildness of the Ego

BismiLlahi r-Rahmani r-Rahim

Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla created people. He ﷻ sent Prophets to teach them manners and discipline. In order to remove their wildness, so that they have good manners, He ﷻ sent the Prophets. What is wildness? Wildness is like a tree. You must arrange and organize it to make it useful. If you don’t do it, the ego does everything to make a person think something of himself.

Pharaoh said “I am your greatest God.” He must have seen others as little Gods to say “I am your greatest.” People’s egos think they are Gods. Mawlana Shaykh Nazim used to say if everyone was given that chance, everyone would become like Pharaoh and say “I am your God.” Pharaoh had that chance, but people don’t have that chance. So they can’t do so. Otherwise, if they had a chance, the ego would make everyone act like Pharaoh. Therefore, we must train our egos.

Contrarily, in the time we are living, the more you praise your ego, the less it is. They say “There is no one better than me” and want to show themselves everywhere. Whatever they do, they want people to see it. O stupid man, stupid human, what benefit will you have if they see it? There will be no benefit but loss. The things you show, the things that are useless will attract evil eye on you and become an affliction. And others will be upset too. There will be envy and jealousy. There won’t be anything else. Therefore, the more people train their egos, the more benefit they will have. The more they exalt their egos, the more loss there will be.

What is the benefit if all people say you are so and so? When you are dead and gone, there will be no use of you. And you will have no profit but loss. Therefore, may Allah ﷻ protect us from the evil of our egos. Thinking that people you see are doing something great and imitating them is a foolish thing, not otherwise. Clever people know their capacity and limits. We are weak people in the sight of Allah ﷻ. No matter how strong they are, people are still weak.

Therefore, we must know this. We must be servants of Allah ﷻ. Our necks are in the Hand of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. He ﷻ will take it whenever He ﷻwants and wherever He ﷻ wants, and bring it whenever He ﷻ wants. May Allah ﷻ help us. May He ﷻ not let us obey our egos and put us in ridiculous position. And may He ﷻ not let us out of His ﷻ way insha’Allah. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
