Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Mawlānā Shaykh Nāẓim, may Allāh ﷻ raise his rank, used to say this poem. There are many Islāmic poems and beautiful sayings from the elders. There are thousands. They tell about the Majesty of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla and the high rank of our Prophet ﷺ. They are many poems that tell about his ﷺ manifestations.
Mawlānā Shaykh Nāẓim would sometimes say them according to the state of the people. There was one,
“لا تُكْثر لهَمّكْ مَا قُدِّرْ يَكُونْ، فاللهُ المُقَدِّرْ، وَالعَالَمْ شُئُونْ”
“Lā tukthir l-hammik mā quddir yakūn, fa-Allahul muqaddir wal ʿālam shu’ūn”
“Let not your worries be a lot, whatever is decreed, will come to pass. Allah is the decreer of all fates, and the world is merely its manifestation.”
Don’t worry too much, it says. Don’t worry and be anxious.
So, don’t worry too much. Surrender everything to Allāh ﷻ and move forward. Don’t tire your head too much, especially for dunyā. Because Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla does what He ﷻ wants. You can tire your head, or make your head hurt, or make your head explode. There is no benefit.
The most beautiful thing is said here as a poem: Don’t worry. There is Allāh ﷻ. Allāh ﷻ is the one who does everything. Don’t tire yourself. Surrender to Allāh ﷻ. Surrender to Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Everything will be easy. Dunyā will not change with this worry of yours. Nothing changes by making your head hurt or by tiring your head. What will change is you making your head hurt. And you might harm your īmān sometimes. Some people, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, go out of īmān for a worldly matter. Whereas it’s not worth it at all. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created this world and it’s been going on the same way without effort. There is no time.
Of course, there were some very nice times. There were some great times. With who? With our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. But of course, that time was the most painful time. But because they surrendered to Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, it was the best time. They tied stones to their bellies and remained hungry for dunyā. They couldn’t even find a bite of bread to eat. Still, it was the best time.
So, when you surrender everything in dunyā to Allāh ﷻ, it becomes beautiful. Dunyā becomes paradise when you are with the good, ones. When you are with the bad ones, even if the whole world is yours, you still won’t be satisfied. You still won’t be comfortable. You won’t be at ease.
That’s why, these beautiful advices – Mawlānā Rumī has many. There is also Qasīdat al-Burda. There are thousands of beautiful sayings said by Awliyā’. They are all for the purpose of trusting in Allāh ﷻ. They are for the purpose of relying on Allāh ﷻ. They made those beautiful sayings to tell people about those beautiful things. Some people understand. Some people don’t understand. Sometimes it just goes like that.
But what is important is – they say, “This happened, that happened in dunyā,” Dunyā is none of your business. It has its Lord. There is Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. What He ﷻ wants happens. What He ﷻ doesn’t want doesn’t happen.
Therefore, there’s no need to be too sad because this and that happened. Just be on the way of Allāh ﷻ; that is enough. May Allāh ﷻ make us all be on this way. And may we not trouble our heads with other things, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
