Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

In shā’a Llāh, this is a blessed ‘Īd al-Fitr, ‘Īd of sweets. The ‘Īd of Ramaḍān has beautiful names. May it be blessed for all of you. Today is Jum’ah; it’s both our holiday, the weekly holiday of Friday, and also ‘Īd al-Fitr. May it be blessed. May it be of barakah, in shā’a Llāh.
May Allāh ﷻ grant us all comfort. May it be the remedy for all our troubles, the cure, and may all our good wishes come true. These are blessed days. This night, last night and today are among the blessed days. These are days when du’ā’s are accepted.
Therefore, we show respect to them and perform our worship – of course, everyone does. These ‘Īd prayers are well-known among people. Some people only pray from one ‘Īd to the next. That was in the past. Now, most people don’t even do that. They used to pray from Friday to Friday. They’ve left it to just one ‘Īd.
Even those who pray only from one ‘Īd to the next have decreased. They’ve decreased a lot. There are hardly any who pray anymore. Whereas, people who never prayed would get up early for ‘Īd prayers and go to the mosque with their families and children. The mosques would be full. They would perform their worship. That was a great blessing.
At least once or twice a year, one’s forehead touches the ground in prayer. One’s family and children go to the mosque, and one goes to the mosque in a state of purity. That was a beautiful tradition. Many people have left it. This is a great loss. It’s something to be deeply regretted.
Not going to the mosque even once or twice a year is very bad. Bad for whom? Bad for those who don’t do it. As for others, those who do go, a Muslim wants good for everyone. So they wish to see others also bow in prayer, their foreheads touching the ground, even if only once or twice a year. They want them to go to the mosque.
To go to the mosque only once in one’s life, and going also soullessly, is a great loss. A great disappointment. Nothing could be greater than that. Because when one goes to the mosque, one repents and seeks forgiveness. He remembers Allāh ﷻ. Otherwise, he is in rebellion and tughyān (transgression).
Tughyān means going greatly against Allāh ﷻ. People in that state will regret it greatly. They will feel regret in this world and in the hereafter. They will constantly lament to themselves, “Why are these things happening to us? What is going on?”
Therefore, these holidays are a great gift from Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, both materially and spiritually. May Allāh ﷻ not deprive us of them. May He ﷻ not make us without a share of them. They are the ones who are deprived.
Sometimes, in the old times, the youth was different from old age. In our youth, when we saw people not fasting, we would get a little angry. Now we don’t get angry. We make du’ā’ to Allāh ﷻ. They are deprived of this. They have been deprived of this beauty.
And there are also those who, thinking they are doing something, go around openly eating and not fasting to show off to others as if it’s something related to mankind. They are deprived, poor people. They have not received the beauty, the spiritual beauty. They have no spiritual beauty within them.
Without spiritual beauty, worldly beauty is useless. Even if you possessed the whole world, it would be of no benefit, no use. Let alone the hereafter, it would also be useless in this world. It serves no purpose other than being under the command of your ego.
“I’ll do whatever my ego tells me to do.” The ego says, “Do this and see well how it will go.” You do it. But it still doesn’t benefit you. “No, not this, look, this is better.” It shows you something worse. “Do this, you’ll be happier, you’ll be more satisfied.” You do that. But that still doesn’t work. Then, you do something else.
That’s how it is. It’s nothing else. A person under the command of their ego will never be happy. They will never be pleased.
Therefore, may Allāh ﷻ protect us from the evil of our ego. May He ﷻ protect us from that evil. May we not deviate from His ﷻ command, in shā’a Llāh, for the sake of this blessed day. May our children, in shā’a Llāh, not follow the commands of others, not emulate them, thinking “they live well,” and then regret it later, in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
