The Believer Tolerates All States

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says,

“المُؤمِنُ يألَفُ ويُؤلَفُ”

“The believer is friendly and can be befriended.” [Hadith]

A believer gets along well. He gets along well with everyone. People are pleased with him. He tolerates people and gets by.

This worldly life passes in peace for the believer. He tolerates. If it’s good, he thanks Allāh ﷻ. If it’s difficult, he praises Allāh ﷻ. He gets by with people according to their situation. He is pleased with everything, and Allāh ﷻ is pleased with him.

The believer has this more than the Muslim. Those who believe in Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla and have strong īmān do this. The normal Muslim needs discipline. He must train his ego. It is also difficult to train the ego alone. That’s why, in the presence of the ṭarīqah Sheikh, he slowly disciplines the ego. He does as much as he can. They never say, “You are good.” Even if it’s a little, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla will still be pleased with him.

Of course, a person cannot do it one hundred percent. But normally, normal people, especially people of this time, object to everything. They don’t like anything. They complain about everything, while they can’t do anything. They only make themselves restless and disturbed; nothing else.

The beautiful words of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam show us the way. It shows what we must do and what we mustn’t do. Those who follow it will be at ease. Even when Sayyidina Ibrahīm ‘alayhi s-salām was in the fire, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla made a garden of paradise for him.

Therefore, if the believer resembles them and does what they say, the whole world’s [states] won’t affect him. Because who has īmān knows that these are from Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, he tolerates them, they pass by and are gone.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us from the evil of our egos. May Allāh ﷻ help us. It’s easy to say, but it’s a little bit difficult to do. In shā’a Llāh, Allāh ﷻ will help us, that we do it, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
