#SohbahSeries: The Day of Gathering

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Maulana Sheikh Nazimق’s Suhbah

Ya Jami‘u-n-Nas, O Gatherer of Mankind. Allah Almighty, only He ﷻ gathers people. Whenever He wills to gather them, He may do so.

Before this creation came into existence, He ﷻ first created the souls of human beings. He gathered them all together and brought them into His Divine Presence.

Each one of mankind was present at that gathering, and Allah Almighty addressed all souls. That was the Day of Promises. Every soul was there, though there was no time and no space in that Divine Presence.

He ﷻ addressed His servants, “Alastu bi-Rabbikum,” Am I not your Lord?

And they replied, “Qalu, Bala,” Yes, we bear witness. We accept You as our Lord.

All of them declared His ﷻ Lordship and promised to worship none but Him.

Allah ﷻ keeps that first gathering, and even now our souls remain in that Divine Presence, giving endless respect and glorification to our Lord Almighty. No one has moved from that state of deputyhood which Allah ﷻ has clothed and honored them with.

From that Day, we are clothed in that honour, giving our endless respect to Him ﷻ.

Only He ﷻ gathers. Only He brings together what was dispersed. His divine will is to grant more lights to His deputies, crowning them with nurun ‘ala nur, light upon light.

Allah ﷻ created man and blew into him from His Divine Soul. Our souls are originally from His Divine Breath. Without the soul, our physical bodies are nothing, lifeless. It is the soul that gives life.

The original soul, clothed in the lights of divine deputyhood, has never moved from the Divine Presence. From that soul, Allah ﷻ sends only one small ray to our physical being, and that single ray is enough to sustain life.

He ﷻ made us capable of taking more and more divine light during our lives. We have been created like a river, running from beginning to end, one after the other. Every moment, every second, everything changes.

In every unit of time, everything changes, yet to our hearts it appears as though all remains still. Like a river from Adam (AS) to the Day of Resurrection, everyone coming is taking something from Allah ﷻ’s endless favors.

People come one after another, appear for a short while, then disappear from sight. But only those without understanding imagine that death means disappearance.

Allah ﷻ declares to every Prophet (AS) that He alone is Jami‘u-n-Nas, the Gatherer of Mankind.

He ﷻ will gather them all a second time. No one can hide himself, and no one will vanish forever. When He calls, all must come and be present before Him.

We are now waiting for the last stop of this dunya. It is not far.

So many millions once filled the streets of London. They have all gone, but they are not lost. They are waiting for Allah ﷻ’s call to rise again. As He gathered everyone in the beginning, He will gather everyone again in the end.

On that great Day of Gathering, all will know who is the Seal of the Prophets ﷺ. He ﷺ will be the first to be called to the Divine Presence and the first to speak before his Lord Almighty.

When He ﷻ gathers all creatures, He will give His judgment for everyone. Some will be directed towards Paradise, ready to move, and others towards Hell. Then Allah ﷻ will address Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ, the most honoured of all creation.

Everyone will see and hear. Nothing will veil their vision or hearing that Day. All will possess perfect clarity of sight and understanding.

The Prophet ﷺ will come forward, and all eyes will turn to him. Judgment will take place for everyone at once. No need to look at the first and second and third, for everyone will feel as though he alone is being judged.

Sultan al-‘Arifin Abu Yazid al-Bistamiق knew about his Lord ﷻ and His attributes.

He said, “Everyone is afraid of that Day. But I am waiting for that Day to be in the Divine Presence, only to hear my Lord say, ‘O Abu Yazid!’ only waiting for that addressing from my Lord to me.

Even if He throws me into Hell, seven Hells’ fires may be extinguished from my joy of that addressing!”

He was an ‘arif, one who truly knew his Lord ﷻ.

We are nothing. When Allah ﷻ says your name, you cannot imagine that joy, you should be so happy!

He ﷻ created us with perfect form, giving each one eyes, faces, colours, and shapes. Still people are unhappy, complaining about how they were made. They quarrel with their own appearance, though Allah ﷻ said, “Laqad khalaqna al-insana fi aḥsani taqwim.” Indeed, We created man in the best form.

Abu Yazidق will be so happy. And you must be happy too! If Her Majesty the Queen addressed you, you would be so happy. What more the King of Kings?

I am nothing, and if you are really nothing, no judgment for “nothing.”

But you must declare it. The one who says “I am nothing,” goes to the right. The one who is “something,” goes among the left-hand people.

A man once asked Sayyidina ‘Aliر, “How is Allah Almighty?” Sayyidina ‘Aliر replied, “For the One who created ‘How,’ you cannot ask ‘How’ about Him.”

No one knows how Allah ﷻ will give his judgement on that Day. But it is known that He will call to His Throne the one whose name is written there beside His own, Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.

People will watch as the Prophet ﷺ approaches the Throne. Then Allah ﷻ will hand him the Divine Pen and say,

“Now I have finished My judgment for Paradise and Hells. As I said, so I did. As I promised, so I fulfilled. I am that One who does all things as I will; no one compels Me, but I compel all to My command.

Now I am giving authority to you, O Muhammad. Take this Pen. If you would like to take anyone or everyone to Paradise, you may take them.”

I am such a weak one. Yet if I were given even a part of that honour, I would take everyone.

Now, in this life, only one Ocean of Mercy is open to creation, the Ocean of ar-Rahman (The Most Merciful). But on that Day, Allah Almighty will open ninety-nine Oceans of Mercy.

The Prophet ﷺ will look upon all creation and call for his ummah with mercy and compassion, interceding until every soul is reached and none are left outside those Oceans of Mercy.

How blessed are we that He ﷻ has granted us the greatest honour of being His servants and the ummah of His beloved Prophet ﷺ. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin.

May Allah ﷻ forgive us and grant us understanding.

May He ﷻ make us among those who remember Him and send peace and blessings upon His beloved Prophet ﷺ, and may we be gathered under his ﷺ banner in the Gardens of Mercy.

Al-Fatiha.

This series was initiated by the SufiHub Team in honour of the 2nd Urs of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan, who lovingly dedicated himself to transcribing and summarising the daily sohbahs of Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق.

It was through this blessed service that he began his journey on this beautiful Way in 2008, remaining steadfast upon it until his final breath in 2023. Today, his legacy continues at our Zawiyah at A’Posh Bizhub Singapore through his representatives Sidi Shalihin, Ismail, and Syed Muhammad, who humbly carry forward the path he sincerely paved.

We pray that our dear Sheikh Abdul Sattar has been reunited with his beloved Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق and all our Grandshaykhs, and that their light continues to guide us always on the way of Haqq.

The text was originally taken from Liberating the Soul – A Guide for Spiritual Growth by Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqaniق. With love and sincere intention, parts of this sohbah have been gently revised by the SufiHub Team for clarity and contextual relevance.

If you wish to share it on your platforms, kindly post it in full and ensure that proper credit is given to all its sources. For this is adab, the very core of our beautiful religion and way.

Should you have any queries or concerns, you are always welcome to reach us at thesufihubteam@gmail.com.

Wassalam.
