[During one of his journeys for Umrah, Mawlanaق travelled with a group of pilgrims from Cyprus to Mecca. From this experience, he spoke about the importance of being content with whatever circumstances Allah Almighty provides.]

By the name of Allah, All-Mighty, All-Merciful, Most Beneficent and Most Munificent.

You may not always find everything that you want to eat. Therefore, you must eat whatever is put in front of you; you must try to learn to eat any kind of food.

Do not say, “We are not accustomed to this!” Alhamdulillah, Western people are easy; anything you put before them for eating, they will eat. But our people are foolish, not eating everything.

The same goes for dressing, sleeping, houses, and cars. Do not say, “I must have a Rolls Royce.” Any kind of car is all right; you may even take a bus, not always a minicab or a taxi.

You have to accustom yourself to every kind of condition, to hard conditions; you must try, little by little, because you cannot find everything at all times, since every sort of condition may occur to man.

Sometimes rich people may become poor; sometimes powerful people may become weak; sometimes you may be in a tight place, and so on. You must consider every possibility.

On one of my pilgrimages with our sisters from Cyprus, I went to Mecca and arrived at the mutawwif’s (the person guiding the group on pilgrimage) house. Then I attended to one lady.

“O-ooh!” she said. “I cannot stay in this place.”

I said, “For what are you asking, a palace? No; this is the best place for us. As far as our money allows, it is all right, and it is near the Holy Ka‘bah. If you are asking to live in a hotel, all the money you have brought is not enough for even one night. What are you saying? You must stay here.”

Only one mat, yes; she was accustomed to being in her house where everything was comfortable.

Yet sometimes you must sleep on the ground. So many things are happening in the world, people fleeing, leaving everything behind. Compared to that, even our mosque is like a palace. Perhaps next year there will be a more suitable place. We shall see.

Yes. Whoever agrees with his Lord ﷻ is going to be happy; whoever goes against the plans of our Lord ﷻ suffers. It is simple: the one who goes with Him ﷻ is happy, the one who goes against Him ﷻ gets into the wrong lane of traffic.

You must keep His ﷻ way. Do not be against your Lord ﷻ.

But we are always against Him ﷻ. Allah Almighty says, “My word must prevail.” We say, “No! Our word must prevail!” but it is impossible for our words to prevail.

And sometimes, I think about that and say, Alhamdulillah that my word did not prevail, and that my Lord’s word did. I am happy.”

You may understand afterwards, not at the same time. Afterwards you may realize that His ﷻ word is the best for you, that His ﷻ choosing is the best for you, not your choosing.

You cannot choose anything correctly for yourself. Each time you choose, you choose the worst thing; each time He ﷻ chooses for you, He ﷻ chooses the best.

That is the summary of the whole Sharī‘ah. If we reflect on that point, we will be happy people, never suffering. Suffering only comes when we resist Allah ﷻ’s choosing. You understand? Do not be against Him ﷻ!

Look, one day you wear red, another day blue, another day white, and you are happy with them. In the same way, life changes from one condition to another. Sometimes wealth, sometimes poverty, sometimes ease, sometimes hardship.

Yes, as Allah ﷻ chooses for us, that is always the best.

Al-Fatiha.

This series was initiated by the SufiHub Team in honour of the 2nd Urs of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan, who lovingly dedicated himself to transcribing and summarising the daily sohbahs of Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق.

It was through this blessed service that he began his journey on this beautiful Way in 2008, remaining steadfast upon it until his final breath in 2023. Today, his legacy continues at our Zawiyah at A’Posh Bizhub Singapore through his representatives Sidi Shalihin, Ismail, and Syed Muhammad, who humbly carry forward the path he sincerely paved.

We pray that our dear Sheikh Abdul Sattar has been reunited with his beloved Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق and all our Grandshaykhs, and that their light continues to guide us always on the way of Haqq.

The text was originally taken from Liberating the Soul – A Guide for Spiritual Growth by Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqaniق. With love and sincere intention, parts of this sohbah have been gently revised by the SufiHub Team for clarity and contextual relevance.

If you wish to share it on your platforms, kindly post it in full and ensure that proper credit is given to all its sources. For this is adab, the very core of our beautiful religion and way.

Should you have any queries or concerns, you are always welcome to reach us at thesufihubteam@gmail.com.

Wassalam.
