Make Shukr for Guidance

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Read Sultanق’s Sohbah here:

“إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ”

(Qur’ān 28:56)

“Innaka la tahdi man ‘ahbabta wa lakinna Allaha yahdi man yasha’u”

“Indeed, [O Muhammad], you do not guide whom you like, but Allah guides whom He wills.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, you cannot guide the one you love. He ﷻ even said that to our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Allāh ﷻ guides whomever He ﷻ wants.

The people whom Allāh ﷻ guides are the chosen people. They were guided by Allāh’s ﷻ grace. You can strive as much as you want, you can’t do so. If Allāh ﷻ guides people, it is a great favor, it is a great gift from Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla.

Therefore, the people on this way, the people who are guided on the way of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla must make Shukr so that: “وبِالشُّكْر تَدُوم النَّعَم”, “With gratitude do favors perpetuate.” With making Shukr, favors perpetuate. If you don’t make Shukr, you will lose the favors; may Allāh ﷻ protect us. All kinds of favors.

But the greatest favor is the favor of īmān, which gives comfort to man in both dunyā and ākhirah. It brings salvation. He is saved from all kinds of troubles. Īmān is the greatest favor. Therefore, even if one is poor, even if he is sick, even if he is oppressed, if he has īmān, nothing affects him. If he doesn’t have īmān, then he will be restless at the slightest thing. He will be disturbed. He won’t feel good.

Therefore, for the favors to be perpetual, you must make Shukr. As we said, the greatest favor is the favor of īmān. Other favors such as rizq, health, offsprings, worldly affairs: all of them both increase and become more beautiful with Shukr.

Therefore, we should make Shukr in these blessed days that Allāh ﷻ has guided us. Not everyone is destined to have it. Even in Muslim countries, no one values Muslims. They are cheated by people of dunyā and value them. They follow whatever they say like a law, running after them. Whereas Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla did not give them that chance. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla did not give them that favor.

May we be thankful for the favors He ﷻ has given us, in shā’a Llāh. Do not envy those who live for dunyā. Do not wish from Allāh ﷻ to be like them. Only make du’ā’ to Allāh ﷻ to make you steadfast on this way. May Allāh ﷻ help us. May Allāh’s ﷻ favors be perpetual upon us, in shā’a Llāh, and multiply. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
