Leave What Does Not Concern You

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says,

“مِنْ حُسْنِ إسْلَامِ الْمَرْءِ تَرْكُهُ مَا لَا يَعْنِيهِ”

“Min ḥusni islāmi l-mar’i, tarkuhu mā lā ya‘nīh”

“Part of the perfection of one’s Islām is his leaving that which does not concern him.”

What does this mean? How can a person, a Muslim, be a good Muslim? How does that happen? He should not interfere in matters that do not concern him. He mustn’t interfere. This is something that is necessary for all people, both Muslims and non-Muslims. Because when you interfere in matters that do not concern you – you mustn’t even interfere in things you understand anyway. Even in the things you understand, some people will not like you interfering. Then, you will interfere and give ideas. You will confuse people’s minds. Your own mind will also be confused. Therefore, it is good for a person not to interfere in matters that do not concern him. And it is also better for a Muslim, says our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.

It is exactly the opposite in this time. Everyone will interfere in every matter. He knows everything. He knows politics, he knows economics, he knows business, he knows about studies, he knows how to sow, he knows how to reap. But he does not know anything. A person who knows everything means he knows nothing. You have to know something so that if they ask you about it, you can really do it. You will be useful. There are many people who jump into everything and never do anything properly these days. It is not acceptable. It is not a good thing either. That is why, the world is in chaos. People suppose they will make the world better themselves. Some fools even want to interfere in the work of Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla. They reach such a level of stupidity by asking why He ﷻ created such people, why He ﷻ did things.

That is why, a person, a Muslim, should mind his own business, mind his own situation, mind his own ego and train himself. It is not his duty to look at someone else’s. If he is given a duty, he must do it. If you are not given a duty, then you should mind yourself, your family, your children, your mother and father. Advise them. Show them the way. Intervene in their business; it is not a problem. But no, you will rule the world with things you have nothing to do with. Let alone the country, those claiming they are clever are even trying to rule the world. After that, without succeeding in anything, without being able to do anything, people do not benefit from them, but rather they suffer. A useful person is a person who minds his own business. A person who does his job completely.

These words of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam are very precious jewels. He who holds on to them will be both comfortable and successful. He who does not hold on to them will be unsuccessful and, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, will lose his īmān. May Allāh ﷻ help us. They have ruined the world with this thing called democracy. Mawlānā Shaykh Nāẓim used to say that all the time. Everything, everyone will say their own opinion. If everyone says their opinion, the valuable opinion will be lost among those opinions. Bad opinions will remain. And they are nothing but harm. May Allāh ﷻ give people mind and understanding, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
