Stories of Devotion During Ramadan

Once there lived a man named Muhammad who did not pray or fast for eleven months of the year. When Ramadan arrived, he would purify himself, wear fresh clothes, and perfume his beard. He would fast and pray, making up all missed prayers.

When asked why, he said, “Ramadan is the month of repentance and forgiveness; it is a month of mercy and blessings. I trust Allah ﷻ to forgive my sins, and therefore I pray diligently during this month.”

After his death, friends saw him in dreams and asked how he fared. They received the same answer: “Allah ﷻ the All-Merciful has forgiven my sins because I honoured the holy month of Ramadan.”

Anas ibn Malikر reported that Rasulullah ﷺ said:
• “Whoever seeks the company of saintly and learned people during Ramadan will receive the reward of a full year of prayers for every step he takes towards such an assembly. On the Day of Judgment, he will stand with me before the Throne of Mercy.”
• “Whoever prays all the prayers of Ramadan in congregation will, for every rak‘ah, be granted a city in Paradise filled with unimaginable delights.”
• “Whoever pleases his parents during Ramadan will have Allah ﷻ’s Gaze of Mercy upon him, and I am his guarantor that he will enter Paradise.”

For women, if their husband is pleased with them during Ramadan, they receive the rewards of Maryamر, mother of Prophet ‘Isa (AS), and Asiyahر, the wife of Pharaoh.

Those who assist the poor during Ramadan will have Allah ﷻ attend to a thousand of their needs.

Abu Hurayraر related that Rasulullah ﷺ said:
• “If someone lights a lamp in the mosque during Ramadan, Allah ﷻ will shine a light for him in his grave and grant him the reward of all prayers performed in that mosque while the lamp is burning. The angels pray for him, and the Throne-bearers seek forgiveness for him as long as the light remains.”
