Rabi’ al-Awwal is the third month of the Islamic Hijri calendar, a month filled with beauty, blessings, and joy for the hearts of the believers.

Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil ar-Rabbaniق said:

Rabi’ al-Awwal – its very name is beautiful. It is the month of spring. Rabi’ means spring. Even if it is in the middle of winter or autumn, Rabi’ al-Awwal is the sign of beauty, the sign of purity; it is the beginning of everything.

Everything is beautiful in it. And for the honor of the blessed face of the Prophet ﷺ, all kinds of goodness will come.

Insha’Allah we will be granted from its goodness and blessings, insha’Allahu r-Rahman. May Rabi’ al-Awwal be Mubarak for all of us, insha’Allah.

The most important day this month is the 12th of Rabi’ al-Awwal, which falls on Wednesday, 3rd September 2025, after Maghrib.

It is the day Allah ﷻ gifted the world with the birth of His Most Beloved, the Mercy to all creation, our Holy Prophet ﷺ.

*Dates may vary from country to country depending on local moon sightings. Kindly follow your local authority where applicable.

For simplicity and consistency, the dates mentioned here follow Mawlanaق’s calendar.

InsyaAllah, Rabi al-Awwal 1447H will begin after Maghrib this Saturday, 23rd August 2025.

Saturday, 23rd August

Eve of Rabi al-Awwal.

From Asar onwards, begin the new month with a ritual bath (ghusl), perform two raka‘ats of Solatul Wudhu, and observe the Adab of Tariqah.

After this, recite the Welcoming Rabi al-Awwal Poem daily until the 14th of the month.

At sunset, follow the Sunnah of sighting the new moon and recite the New Moon Sighting Du’a.

On this night, it is also recommended to read Grandshaykh’s Du‘a Al-Ma’thur.

Lastly, the Dhikr mentioned above is among the most powerful, so recite it abundantly throughout this blessed month of Rabi’ al-Awwal.

Wednesday, 3rd September/ 11th Rabi’ al-Awwal

After Maghrib, we gather to welcome the most blessed night, the Night of the Prophet’s ﷺ Mawlid.

Tonight, we also remember and honour our Masters in the Naqshbandi Golden Chain.

In his recent Sohbah, Mawlanaق reminded us that this night is as precious and valuable as Laylatul Qadr.

Full devotions of this day will be in a separate post.

Thursday, 4th September/ 12th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Day of Mawlid.

A day of celebration and love for our beloved Prophet ﷺ.

Shaykh Adnanق used to say, “Those who celebrate Mawlid with love will be neighbours of Rasulullah ﷺ.”

So do not let this blessed day pass without honouring it.

Fill it with abundant Salawat upon our Master ﷺ, the Crown of Creation and the Light of Guidance.

Friday, Saturday, Sunday, 5th to 7th September 2025

These days are known as the White Days, during which it is Sunnah to fast.

This practice originates with Sayyidina Adam (AS). After he began eating the food of this world, his skin darkened from the radiance it once had in Jannah. He asked Sayyidina Jibril (AS) how to remove this darkness, and he was taught to fast three days each month.

You may also make intention to combine this fast with any qadha (missed) fasts you may have.

For Sunnah fasts, the intention may be made anytime during the day. The Prophet ﷺ used to return home after Fajr prayers, and if no food was found at home, he would then make the intention to fast.

Friday, 5th September/ 13th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Night of 14th Rabi’ al-Awwal – Mawlid of Habib Noh bin Muhammad al-Habshi.

Sunday, 7th September/ 15th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Begin reciting the Farewell Rabi’ al-Awwal Poem daily until the month ends.

Monday, 8th September/ 16th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Night of 17th Rabi’ al-Awwal:

Tuesday, 9th September/ 17th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Night of 18th Rabi’ al-Awwal, Urs of Shaykh Adnan Kabbani.

The best days to perform Hijama therapy, according to the Sunnah, are the 17th, 19th, and 21st of the Hijri month. It is even more beneficial when these days fall on a Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday.

Therefore, for this month, two highly recommended days stand out:

  • Tuesday, the 17th of Rabi’ al-Awwal (9th September 2025)
  • Thursday, the 19th of Rabi’ al-Awwal (11th September 2025)

Cupping is a cure for many illnesses and an important Sunnah to practice. Doing it once a year is sufficient for those in good health.

Important: Never perform cupping on Wednesdays or Saturdays, as this brings more harm than benefit according to a hadith.

Wednesday, 10th September/ 18th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Tonight, after Maghrib, we mark the blessed night when our Holy Prophet ﷺ was named.

We are encouraged to spend it in worship and in sending Salawat, observing the same devotion and reverence as on the night of the Prophet’s ﷺ Mawlid.

Thursday, 11th September/ 19th Rabi’ al-Awwal

Second favourable day for performing cupping (Hijama) this month.
