This is the second post following Guide to Rabi’ al-Awwal.
On this night the world was given its greatest gift ﷺ, a mercy whose light will never fade, the beloved of Allah ﷻ, our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
The glory of our Holy Prophet ﷺ is mentioned in many places of Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Shān. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam is the greatest in the universe.
His ﷺ birth, his ﷺ arrival to this world which is tonight is equivalent to Laylat ul-Qadr, as it is said in Qasidah Mawlid. They are the same. Because for the honor of our Holy Prophet ﷺ, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gave Laylat ul-Qadr to his ummah. This night is the same.
The value of our Holy Prophet ﷺ for us is as much as this night is precious for the true Awliyā’, scholars and believers. To show respect to this night, to rejoice for this night is what we need the most. If you feel happy for that and show respect, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla will make you happy too.
– Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil ar-Rabbaniق (Taken from his Sohbah)
Recommended Worship & Devotions for the Mawlid of our Holy Prophet ﷺ:
① Ritual bath (ghusl)
② Pray two raka’at Sunnah prayer, Solatul Wudhu
③ Make Niyyah (intention)
“Nawaitul-arba’in, nawaitul-‘uzla, nawaitul-khalwa, nawaitu l-i’tikāf, nawaitus-sulūk, nawaitur-rīyada lil-lahi ta’ālā fi hadhā l-jāmi”
“I intend the forty (days of seclusion), I intend seclusion (from dunya), I intend isolation, I intend seclusion in this place, I intend Sulook (complete obedience), I intend discipline (of the ego) for the sake of Allah Almighty, in this place of worship.”
⑦ Recite Mawlid in congregation
There are many versions of the Mawlid, all of which are accepted, inshaAllah.
For those accustomed to a particular version, you may continue with it.
Based on his past sohbah, Mawlanaق mentioned that Mawlid Sharif written by Suleyman Celebi is the best.
He said,
No other version could reach up to his; neither Arabic, nor Persian nor any other. His writing is certainly given by inspiration from our Holy Prophet ﷺ. It occurred by his virtue. Therefore, wherever it is recited, Barakah comes there.
Later in Hajjah Rukiye’s sohbah, she mentioned that in Damascus, in the mosque of Shaykh Muhiyuddin Ibn al-‘Arabiق, there was a man who used to sit in front of the maqam.
When asked to read Mawlid, he would recite a one-page Mawlid standing there for five minutes, ending with “Sallu ‘alayhi wa sallimu taslīmā.”
She followed it by saying,
So even if you have just one page of Mawlid, read it and offer it as a gift to the Prophet ﷺ in your gathering.
Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق used to say, “Read Mawlid, read Mawlid.” Alhamdulillah, we have made it a regular habit and read it three times in our dergah. We read it in Turkish.
If you cannot read the Mawlid, then read Qasīdat al-Burdah.
Hajjah Anneق used to read the Burdah very often. I always intend to read it. Every time someone comes, I read a few lines with them, and that is all.
InshaAllah, innamā al-a‘māl bi n-niyyāt – actions are by intentions.
So on this day, even if you can only manage a single page, make sure to recite the Mawlid Sharif.
In the Google Drive, we have included some versions:
- Mawlid Sharif from Mawlanaق’s page
- Mevlidi Sherif by Suleyman Celebi
- Mawlid of Grandshaykh Abdullah Al Fa’iz Ad Daghestaniق
The Mawlid of Grandshaykh begins with Qasida Hamziyya, a poem written by Imam Busiri, praising our Holy Prophet ﷺ.
This is followed by Mawlid Sharif, commemorating the birth of our Prophet ﷺ.
Recommended Conclusion after reciting Mawlid:
- Recite Durood Sharif — 100 times
اللَّهُمَّ صَلِّ عَلَى سَيِّدِنَا مُحَمَّدٍ وَعَلَى آلِهِ وَصَحْبِهِ وَسَلِّمْ
Allahumma salli ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammad wa ‘ala alihi wa sahbihi wa sallim
O Allah, send blessings upon our master Muhammad ﷺ and upon his family and companions, and grant them peace.
It is recommended to recite this while standing to seek the blessings of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
- Read Ihda (dedication)
We then end the Mawlid by presenting the above recitations to the Prophets, Messengers and our Shaykhs in the Naqshbandi Way.
Transliteration:
lla sharafi’ ‘n-nabi, sallallahu alayhi wa sallam wa alihi wa asahabihi l-kiram, wa ila arwahi jamee’i al-anbiya’i wa l-mursaline wa khudama’i sharai’ihim, wa ila arwahi al-‘aimmati al-arba’a, wa ila arwahi mashayykhina fi t-tariqati n-naqshbandiyyati l-aliyyah, khassatan imamu t-tariqah wa ghawthu l-khaliqah Khwaja Bahauddin Muhammad al-Uwaisiyyi l-Bukhari, Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq al-Ghujduwani, Mawlana Shaykh Sharafuddin al Daghestani, Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah al Faiz al Daghestani, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil al Haqqani, wa sairi sadatina wa s-siddiqiyun.
Translation:
For the honor of the Prophet, may Allah send blessings upon him his family, and his noble companions. And for the souls of all the Prophets and Messengers, their righteous servants, and the souls of the four Imams. And for the souls of our masters in the Naqshbandi-‘Aliyyah Tariqah, especially the Imam of the Tariqah and the Ghawth of creation, Khwaja Bahauddin Muhammad Al-Uwaisiyyi Al-Bukhari, Sayyidina Abdul Khaliq Al-Ghujduwani, Mawlana Shaykh Sharafuddin Al-Daghestani, Mawlana Shaykh Abdullah Al-Faiz Al-Daghestani, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Nazim Adil Al-Haqqani, and all our noble saints and the truthful ones.

⑪ Reading Seerah & Send Salawat upon our Holy Prophet ﷺ
As Hajjah Rukiye said, the Prophet ﷺ is pleased with us when we recite Salawat Sharif upon him ﷺ and gather in his ﷺ honor.
There is a well-known hadith sharif that encourages us to send abundant Salawat upon him ﷺ. The first question one will be asked in the grave is whether they used to send Salawat upon the Prophet ﷺ.
For this reason, it must become a habit, to remember him ﷺ through continuous Salawat.
Especially on this day of Mawlid, do increase Salawat upon the most Beloved, Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ.
This post has been compiled from the teachings of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan (Al-Fatiha).
It also encompasses the teachings of great masters such a Sheikh Abdul Qadir Jilaniق, Mawlana Shaykh Nazimق, Mawlana Shaykh Muhammadق, Sheikh Adnan Kabbaniق, various classical and contemporary kitabs along with the writings of Awliya and scholars of the Naqshbandi Way.
As such, it is intended as a comprehensive guide to the devotions one may practice on this blessed day.
However, as Mawlanaق has often reminded us, any form of worship is accepted by Allah ﷻ, no matter how small. We should always strive to do good, even in small amounts, for what matters most is sincerity and consistency.
One should not feel disheartened or overwhelmed and abandon worship altogether. No matter the measure of our deeds, our duty is to keep striving to improve in this beautiful Way. We are truly blessed to have Mawlanaق’s guidance always.
We pray this guide brings benefit, provides clarity, and supports you on your journey.
We seek forgiveness for any shortcomings or errors.
