Duties for the Day of ‘Ashura

Today is the 9th of Muharram and the 8th in some countries. Tomorrow is the holy day of ‘Ashura. There is recommended worship on the day of ‘Ashurah.

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says that,

✅ whoever takes full ablution on that day will be safe from diseases for the whole year; there won’t be a serious disease. Therefore, people can take full ablution tomorrow. Doing that with the intention of good health will bring us benefit and we will receive Thawab as we carry out the order of our Holy Prophet ﷺ.

✅ You should do shopping for the household. Give charity to family members and to poor ones. It will bring Barakah.

✅ Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says to apply Kohl for protection from eye pain. Whoever applies Kohl on this day will not have a serious eye disease for the whole year.

✅ Also, there is a four Rakaʿāt prayer special for ‘Ashura, you read,

• 11 times Surat Al Ikhlāṣ in each Rakaʿāt. And in the end,
• recite 70 times “HasbunAllahu wa Ni’mal Wakil”.

Then,

• make Du’a, and Allah ﷻ will accept it insha’Allah.

In some countries it is the 10th tomorrow, and in other countries it is after tomorrow. People should estimate it according to their country of residence, because in some countries the moon can be seen earlier or later than in others. We don’t know its calculation exactly. When it is seen, the calculation is made accordingly. If not, they should calculate according to their country. They should not miss this day.

As it is a holy day, the more worship you perform, such as making up the missed prayers, the more Thawab you attain. It is an opportunity that Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla gave us.

It is something we need.

You see the condition of the world. There are calamities, floods and wildfires everywhere.

Our Holy Prophet ﷺ says regarding these days,

“يكونَ المطرُ قَيْظًا والوَلَدُ غَيْظًا”

Rain will not come as mercy but as a disaster, and children do not listen to their parents in the end of times. They come not as goodness but as badness to people. May Allah ﷻ protect us.

Therefore, these days are holy days when Du’as are accepted. We should make Du’a that they become means to goodness. There are calamities and diseases, all kinds of troubles these days.

People are questioning where these come from, and whether people made them. If they did, they did. As long as there is no permission from Allah ﷻ, they cannot happen. They are a warning for people to come to the right way. If they don’t, they know for themselves. We seek refuge in Allah ﷻ.

Allah ‘Azza wa Jalla will protect us and save us from these calamities and troubles. We should believe in this, we should have ‘iman. ‘Iman is a must. When there is no ‘iman, people cannot tolerate anything. They are devastated by everything.

When there is ‘iman, people are in comfort knowing that Allah ﷻ will protect them and that Allah’s ﷻ command will happen. May Allah protect us and give strength to our ‘iman insha’Allah.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.

Al-Fatiha.
