Read Sultanق’s Sohbah here:
Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm:
“وَلَا تَمْنُن تَسْتَكْثِرُ”,
“Wala Tamnun Tastakthir”, “And do not confer favor to acquire more” (Qur’an 74:06).
“إِنَّمَا نُطْعِمُكُمْ لِوَجْهِ اللَّهِ لَا نُرِيدُ مِنكُمْ جَزَاءً وَلَا شُكُورًا”, “Innama Nut’imukum li-Wajhi Llahi Lā Nurīdu Minkum Jazā’an Wa Lā Shukūrāa”, “We feed you only for the Countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude.” (Qur’ān 76:09). Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says when you do something, do not remind someone of the favor. To remind means rub it in someone’s face and say, “I did this to you. I did that to you. I gave this to you. I gave you food and drink”. This is reminding or rubbing it in someone’s face. This is the meaning of it.
People who do so lose Thawab of the goodness they did. Because they do it not for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ but for their own benefit then. They say, “I now did this to you. You must do it for me as well”. And if a person can’t do it, what will you do? There is nothing you can do. But you lose the Thawab and the pleasure of Allah ﷻ then.
People who do so do it in order to exalt their egos and to satisfy their egos. They say, “I did this. I did that. I did so much to you. Why are you not doing the same to me?” If you did something, you must have done it for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. You should have done so. Otherwise, if you did it for the benefit of this world, it has no value and there is nothing you can get in return. There is neither responsibility, nor anything. You should not have done this and that, or fed anyone if you are doing it for your ego.
Did you buy people for a bite or two? Did they become your servants or workers when you helped them? Clever people don’t do this. Clever people understand that for every goodness Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives reward. Demanding from people is stupid. Therefore, we must be careful. When you do some goodness, you should not expect any benefit in return. These are the things done sincerely for the pleasure of Allah ﷻ. We must expect benefits, goodness and everything from Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla.
Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla says in Qur’an ‘Azimu sh-Shan, “We don’t expect gratitude or anything in return for goodness”. Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla will give paradise in return and you’ll have beneficence. Allah ‘Azza wa-Jalla has mentioned this in several places in Qur’an ‘Azimu sh-Shan. It is not unpaid. So do not lose benefits of Akhirah and beauties of Akhirah for the benefits of this world, for useless things. We must be careful about this. Don’t let it be wasted in vain when you do goodness. May Allah ﷻ accept the goodness and may it be blessed for those who do it insha’Allah.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
