Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm
Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “الصَّدَقَةُ تَرُدّ الْبَلَاءَ وَتَزِيدُ الْعُمر”, “Aṣ-ṣadakah taraddu l-balā’ wa-tazīdu l-‘umur.” Aw kamā qāl.
Ṣadaqah is important. It is very important. Mankind has 360 body parts; moving parts, fingers, feet, neck. There are 360 joints all over the body. You should give ṣadaqah for each of them, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.
The Ṣaḥābah asked, “What if we don’t have [money] to give?” Instead, if you pick up dirty things or garbage from the ground, if you remove stones from the way, that is ṣadaqah as well. Ṣadaqah doesn’t have to be money. All kinds of goodness are counted as ṣadaqah. People must give it daily. They must give it as gratitude to Allāh ﷻ for every body part. It can be done like this. Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam tells to give ṣadaqah. Even if it is half a date, not even all of it. There was poverty then. “If you eat half and give the other half as ṣadaqah, it will protect you from hellfire,” he ﷺ said. This is important.
People don’t want to give ṣadaqah. Their egos don’t want. They think it is difficult to give ṣadaqah. Especially those with money become even greedier. They do it for their egos. Because little ṣadaqah keeps big disasters and badness away from people. It keeps accidents and afflictions away and extends life, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.
It is a very important and beautiful advice for mankind given by our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Because ṣadaqah is not farḍ for mankind. It is not obligatory but important. They say “Why should I give ṣadaqah? I give zakāh.” But it’s unknown if they give zakāh. They don’t want to give ṣadaqah at all. But they give tons of money for other useless things. Yet, they don’t give even one thousandth of it as ṣadaqah.
Ṣadaqah is a very important thing. Ṣadaqah prevents accidents and disasters. People are protected from them. If people knew its benefit, they’d give half of their money as ṣadaqah every day. It is that important. This is the advice for the ummah from our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Don’t be stingy. Stinginess is not nice. Allāh ﷻ doesn’t like it. He ﷻ doesn’t like stingy ones. He ﷻ loves generous ones. Sinful but generous is more accepted in the sight of Allāh ﷻ than a stingy servant.
Therefore, don’t ignore it for your own benefit. Every day. They say “I give every week.” It mustn’t be so. The daily Ṣadaqah is different, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ. Every day when sun rises, the ṣadaqah of that day is different, says our Holy Prophet ﷺ. “Do I go and look for beggars or poor ones every morning?” Don’t look for them. Put a box. Put your ṣadaqah in that box. When it’s full, you can give it wherever you want. You will give ṣadaqah. Otherwise, no need to look for someone to give to. Your daily ṣadaqah will be accepted like that. You put in that box. When you need, you can exchange coins. Because some people put ṣadaqah and don’t touch it at all. No, if you need, you can exchange and round up the money. You can give it like that. There is no problem. What’s important is that ṣadaqah is there. It is benefit for you. Just like they make insurance and are forced to pay for it; this is a daily insurance. The best insurance is ṣadaqah. Everyone must pay for their insurance every day in shā’a Llāh.
May Allāh ﷻ make us from – As we said, there is more benefit for you than the poor ones to give ṣadaqah, to put it there. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from accidents and disasters. We live in the end of times. It is unknown what may happen to us. Therefore, put your ṣadaqah and go in peace. “I put this ṣadaqah for the pleasure of Allāh ﷻ today for the poor and the needy, for our body parts, for our children and family.” Say so, and Allāh ﷻ will protect you for the honor of our Holy Prophet ﷺ. When you do so believing in his ﷺ holy words, you will be at peace that day in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
