Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm
‘الَّذِينَ يَشْرُونَ الْحَيَاةَ الدُّنْيَا بِالْآخِرَةِ’
(Qur’ān 04:74)
‘Al-Ladhīna Yashrūna Al-Ĥayāata Ad-Dunyā Bil-‘Ākhirati’
‘Who sell the life of this world for the Hereafter.’ Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allāh Azza wa Jalla says, there are people who buy this dunyā, meaning the benefit of life with the benefit of ākhirah. Ākhirah must be bought with dunyā; not to buy dunyā with ākhirah.
Which means you use what you want from people, you take from them, cheat them, and show yourself as a holy one or good one. You cheat them and take from them not only money, but anything else. Many people look like awliyā’u Llāh, like ‘ālim, like mashāyikh and are doing this. These people are maybe happy, they have many things but Allāh ﷻ is not happy with them. Only a short time. Our life is for a short time; not so long. When they finish this life, they will see that what they’ve done was bad for them; not any benefit, no any good thing for them.
But people – you must also, people who are seeing this, must look if this man claims he is Shaykh, he is ‘ālim, he is awliyā’: if what he is saying is according to what Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, then ok. But if he’s saying something that Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam hasn’t said, don’t believe, don’t accept.
But you are, al-ḥamdu liLlāh – because this has happened many times. It happens everywhere. Every man can be cheated. So, for this, we are again and again, every time saying: don’t believe. Some people put Islamic clothes on and then you think they are trustful. Many times, they cheat themselves, not cheat others. First, before others, they are cheating themselves because they are buying the little thing with the big thing. What is the big thing? The forever life, and this small thing is only a short way, a short time which is life. Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam described it just as you open and close your eyes.
How can you be happy to get something that has no barakah, no any benefit? Only coming curse on you, Allāh ﷻ curses you, Prophet ﷺ curses you, ‘لَعْنَةُ اللَّهِ وَالْمَلَائِكَةِ وَالنَّاسِ أَجْمَعِينَ’, ‘Lanatu Allāhi Wa Al-Malā’ikati WaAn-Nāsi ‘Ajmaīna’, ‘Upon them will be the curse of Allah and of the angels and the people, all together.’ (Qur’ān 02:161). All people, all the world will curse you, says Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla about these people.
In shā’a Llāh, may Allāh ﷻ give hidāyah to these people. And may Allāh ﷻ keep us safe from being cheated by these people. They cheat not only, as we said, with money. They can say anything for benefit, saying, “I made a hadiyyah (gift) for you, no need for you to pray. You are just following me, giving me money.” And this is what happens, step by step by step, reaching until this thing. Some of them say more than this. May Allāh ﷻ keep us safe from them. May Allāh ﷻ make them away from us, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
