Beware of Those Interpreting Qur’ān

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ وَيُبَشِّرُ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ”

(Qur’an 17:9)

“Inna hādhā l-qur’āna yahdī lillatī hiya aqwam wa yubash-shiru l-mu’minin”

“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says in this ayah karīmah that Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is the book that is showing the most beautiful, showing the best, showing the most right. This book was sent down by Allāh ﷻ. And it is one in dunyā. It is the addressing of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla to mankind, His ﷻ blessed words, without any alteration.

It is for the benefit of all humanity; and for everything, whatever is in dunyā, for humans, for the inanimate, for the animals. The information of whatever there is, all kinds of things is in it. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, “It shows the best.”

Now, since the Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is like this, there’s a part of people who say, “How can we benefit from it? How can we benefit from everything?” And a part of people don’t appreciate it.

Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n was conveyed to people through our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. It descended upon our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, he ﷺ endured it, and then he ﷺ showed it and transmitted it to people. That continues until now and will continue until forever.

Of course, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam explained its meaning to us. What our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam explained – Of course, people couldn’t grasp anything; like a drop from the sea from our Prophet’s ﷺ knowledge, from his ﷺ interpretation.

Now some people are saying, “Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n shows everything. We follow it. We will take from it.” Such a group of people have appeared. And they were wrong from the very beginning.

Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n has been conveyed to us from the blessed mouth of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. The ḥadīths shārif are similarly conveyed from him ﷺ. So the explanation of the Qur’ān has been and continues to be by the means of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. It is as he ﷺ showed.

Everyone opens the Qur’ān according to their own mind and say, “Qur’ān means so and so.” They can’t do so. Its knowledge is different. The place it shows is different. People are definitely ignorant. If he opens it and says, “I will do what the Qur’ān says,” he would already be making a mistake from the start. He would be committing a sin from the start.

Interpreting the Qur’ān isn’t easy, and not everyone can do it. Because people, due to incorrect interpretations, are harming both themselves and Muslims. They cannot harm Islām. Nothing harms Islām. But they can harm Muslims. Because they can show the opposite of the truth.

Therefore, it is absolutely necessary for us to read it as our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam showed, and follow the scholars who follow that way. We cannot do it according to our own minds. If we did, we would be committing a sin. There’s that too.

There’s a ḥadīth sharīf of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam in which he‎ ﷺ says, everyone mustn’t interpret according to their own mind. Whoever does that commits a sin. May Allāh ﷻ protect us.

These fitnahs, the fitnahs of the end of times are many. Every day, you hear about something new. Foolishness has reached its final stage. In the end of times, people have reached the final stage of insanity. There is no logic or mind left. They’ve mixed everything up. And they want to mix up this one too.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May Allāh ﷻ not separate us all from the right way.
