Believing In Our Lord

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Maulana Sheikh Nazimق’s Suhbah

In the name of Allah , Most Beneficent and Most Munificent.

Time is running, taking everything away. No one can stop it, and no one, up to this day, has even tried. It is our Lord ﷻ’s favor. Time is running, and everyone, relative to its speed, is also running.

If the true speed of time were made visible, no one could bear that sight. But Allah Almighty veils it for us, so that we can say, “It is all right.” Alhamdulillah, thanks to Allah Almighty!

We feel that time is running, and Islam reminds us, “O people, you must guard time.” How can we guard it? Time continues to run, yet we must place something within it so that our works and activities protect it for us. On the Last Day, the time that we filled with actions will return to us.

Think of a cassette. If it is left alone, it runs without recording anything. If we speak into it, it records and becomes full. Time is the same. It can only be preserved by actions.

As the deputies of our Lord ﷻ on earth, we are commanded to fill our time with deeds that Allah Almighty loves. Our whole life’s cassette will be presented in the Divine Presence.

Allah ﷻ will look at it, His Prophet ﷺ will look, and all prophets, mumins (believers), and the children of Adam (AS) gathered on the Plain of Mahshar, the Plain of Gathering, will also look.

Whatever we do in secret will one day be revealed. Everyone should fear that Day, the day that is coming. All our actions and works will appear. O believers, in the holy books, every scripture speaks about the Day of Resurrection. Everyone will come and will present his book, his workbook, on that Day.

We know that time is passing, running, and our lives are passing with it. You must take care of how you fill your life.

As children of Adam (AS), you have been honored by the Lord ﷻ of the heavens to be His ﷻ deputies on earth. No other creation has been honored as much as the children of Adam (AS), and from honored people the Lord ﷻ expects honorable works.

This is a simple thing to understand and to act upon. When you have been honored, your works must be honorable.

Yet the majority of the children of Adam (AS) fight against the prophets. They fight against the Awliya, attacking them and trying to kill them. At one time, in a single day, one thousand prophets were killed during the time of the Children of Israel, and even more than that.

What is the reason that people attacked the prophets? Each one was attacked. Jesus Christ (AS) was intended to be crucified. Nimrod attacked Abraham (AS), the father of prophets. The seal of the prophets, our Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, was also targeted and plots were made to kill him.

What was their sin, what was their crime? Why did people rush to attack them? These were pure people, they were asking only for the happiness of mankind. Why were they opposed?

We have been honored by Allah Almighty. Is that honor fulfilled by attacking His prophets? All people who follow the way of the prophets have faced attacks. What made the children of Adam (AS) enemies to their prophets?

Prophets are pure people, the best and most merciful to mankind. What was the sin of Noah (AS), of Abraham (AS), of Moses (AS), of Jesus Christ (AS), of Muhammad ﷺ? And what makes human beings enemies to each other also?

Have you thought about that? Most have not. And it is an important point. You have read histories, full of fightings, crimes, and cruelty. What is this? What makes the children of Adam (AS) enemies to each other and enemies to good people?

There is evil, and that evil makes us oppose the prophets. The mission of all prophets was to remove evil from the face of the earth. That was their importance: they came to fight evil so that goodness could remain.

Our greatest and most dangerous enemy, Shaytan, produces evil and spreads it everywhere, creating a vast market for it from East to West.

We have been honored by Allah Almighty, yet we see the entire world turning into a market of evils. Is this not true? Everyone can see it. Soon there will be so much evil that it will destroy everything on earth, and Shaytan will rejoice, saying, “The children of Adam (AS) are finished!” Yes, that is so.

People are now both sellers and buyers of evil in this vast market. From East to West, wherever you set foot, you will find evil. Wherever you stretch your hand, you will find evil. Wherever you cast your gaze, you will find evil.

We are living in a world filled with it, because the children of Adam (AS) are not supporting the kingdom of Allah Almighty but are instead supporting the kingdom of Shaytan on earth.

Now, you must look to yourself; everyone must look to himself. You may say, “What can we do?” Yes, you can do something.

When Nimrod tried to burn Abraham (AS), he made a fire so vast that its flames could be seen from Damascus, though it was near Baghdad.

A single stick of wood would have been enough to burn one man, but Nimrod built a gigantic fire because he represented Shaytan and his kingdom, and he wanted to destroy the kingdom of Haqq (truth), the kingdom of the Lord ﷻ of the heavens and worlds.

Traditions tell us that at that time, a little ant was running toward the fire carrying a drop of water in its mouth. It was asked, “Where are you going?”

The ant replied, “I am running to take away the fire of Nimrod. I am carrying water to save Abraham (AS), the Friend of the Lord, Almighty Allah.”

Allah Almighty rewarded that ant, mentioned them in the holy books and in the Holy Quran (27:18), and He ﷻ granted that ant Paradise.

Look, O believers! Don’t say, “What can I do?” Do not be sellers or buyers of evil. You must open your eyes, your mind, and your heart. You cannot open them without believing. You must believe and be able to reject the kingdom of Shaytan on earth. That is the most important duty of our time.

You may be like a little ant that was rewarded by its Lord Almighty for carrying a single drop of water in its mouth to take away that gigantic fire. And you, the children of Adam (AS), can do far more than what that ant did.

Therefore, it is an important point today. We must understand what is happening and what is going to happen in this world because of our heedlessness. We are heedless people, ignoring evil and never looking to ourselves, what we are doing, whether we are selling evil or buying it. We must become open-eyed and openhearted.

What opens hearts? It is belief. We must believe in Allah Almighty and strive to support His ﷻ kingdom on earth. That is the honorable work for the honored children of Adam (AS). If you can do this, you will be honored.

Otherwise, many will be ashamed on the Day of Resurrection, and they will wish that there was a crack in the earth and that it would swallow them up; so many people will wish that on the Last Day, the Day of Resurrection.

When they see that all their works, all their actions, are selling and buying evil, they will wish that this earth would crack and swallow them in it.

O people, it is not too far away! As I was coming to Jum’ah prayer today, I met a funeral procession and I saw a brown coffin. A man was lying in it and his eyes were closed. He will open them for that Day.

It is so near. Do not imagine it too far away. Once you close your eyes in this world, the next time you open them, you will be standing in the Divine Presence for Judgment. We will all be there. That Day is coming for everyone.

So fill your life’s cassette with honorable works, for you have been honored by Allah Almighty. That is the message of all the prophets from the beginning until the end. Yet, O children of Adam (AS), your egos will not allow you to do honorable works, for the ego always desires evil, tastes it, and lives in it.

Therefore, do not be with your ego. Instead, you must be with your Lord ﷻ and with His ﷻ representatives.

Prophets are the representatives of Allah Almighty, and after them the Awliya are the representatives of their Lord ﷻ on earth.

Allah Almighty created the children of Adam (AS) to be His ﷻ deputies. Some have reached the true station of deputyship, but most remain only candidates.

If you fill your life with honorable works, you will be clothed in the true rank of deputyship and crowned with honor in the Divine Presence.

May Allah ﷻ grant us to be among them.

Al-Fatiha.
