Allāh ﷻ Raises the Humble

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “من تواضع للهِ رفعَه ومن تكبر وضعه”, aw kama qāl. He who humbles himself for the sake of Allāh ﷻ, Allāh ﷻ elevates him and raises him. When Allāh ﷻ elevates him, he becomes elevated.

But the arrogant, Allāh ﷻ degrades him and does not elevate him. A person who says according to his own mind, “I am arrogant, I am this, I am that,” and is arrogant is already unloved, someone whom Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla does not love.

Arrogance is the greatest fault for a person, and it is a sin; it is not a good thing. That is why, most people act arrogantly. Being arrogant is never acceptable in the sight of Allāh ﷻ, nor is it acceptable in the sight of our Prophet ﷺ.

Among Muslims, to say, “I am a teacher, I am a Shaykh, I am a Wakīl (representative), I am this, I am that,” and then act arrogantly is indecorum and useless. It multiplies one’s sins and diminishes his good deeds.

Therefore, the most important thing for the people of ṭarīqah is to be humble and to possess humility. There’s no need for someone without humility to enter the ṭarīqah in the first place. They should be among scholars.

Let him say, “My knowledge is this, my knowledge is that,” and become a little arrogant with himself. This will benefit neither him nor anyone else.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us from this evil of our egos. May Allāh ﷻ help us and protect us from arrogance, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
