Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

الَّذِينَ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقَوْلَ فَيَتَّبِعُونَ أَحْسَنَهُ
(Qur’ān 39:18)
“Al-Ladhīna Yastamiūna Al-Qawla Fayattabiūna ‘Aĥsanah”
“Who listen to speech and follow the best of it.” Sadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
He ﷻ says, those who hear a word or speech and follow its best have won. What is meant by “Qawl” is a word, a speech.
This, of course, comes first from Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, then from the ḥadīths of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. They are undoubtedly the best. We must follow them and fulfill their commands.
Other than that, if someone gives you an advice or says something, you should consider it. We should look for the best of it and benefit from it, says Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n.
Even if you don’t like something someone says to you, if it’s true, you should accept it. However, you can’t accept everything that’s said. Because if it’s opposing to the word or speech of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla and our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, then it mustn’t be accepted.
But in normal things, there are many such words spoken for one’s ego or for others. We must examine and consider if it is true or not. If it is true, one must accept it. Even if it doesn’t suit your ego, even if you dislike it. If it is a true word, it is beneficial to follow it.
Therefore, the truth must be accepted from whoever it comes, from a child, an adult, an elderly person, a young person, a woman, a man.
Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “What a believer loses is good knowledge and good words.” A believer must accept and be happy with that, from whomever it comes.
There is no need to be offended or resent. Being offended and resentful is a disease of the ego. What is true is beneficial and necessary for a person. May Allāh ﷻ make us, all of us, among those who hear the truth and accept it.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
