A Juz of the Qur’ān Must Be Read Daily

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

(Qur’ān 02:185)

‘Shahru Ramađāna Al-Ladhī ’Unzila Fīhi Al-Qur’ānu Hudan Lilnnāsi Wa Bayyinātin Mina Al-Hudá Wa Al-Furqān’

‘The month of Ramadhan [is that] in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for the people and clear proofs of guidance and criterion.’ Sadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says that this blessed month is the month in which the Qur’ān was revealed. All these manifestations were revealed in this month. Then, it was completed in twenty-three years and continues forever as a miracle.

Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is a great miracle. One of the greatest miracles of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam is that the word of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla is among people, in our hands, and we can read it everywhere.

As for reading it; in Ramaḍān, there are already recitations and khatms (complete readings) of the Qur’ān. It is necessary to read it in other days as well. Of course, there are many people who do not know how to read it. Nothing can replace it.

Some people say, “We will read this, there is this book, there is that book”; but they can never replace Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. It is absolutely necessary to read from the Qur’ān. For those who do not know, there is one Juz of the Qur’ān to be read in our Daily Duties.

Those who cannot do that should recite Surat Ikhlās a hundred times. Ikhlās is the essence of Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. Three Ikhlās recitations are equivalent to one Khatm (complete recitation) of the Qur’ān. One should continue with that intention, “We couldn’t read a Juz, so we must recite this.”

Some people are preventing others from reading the Qur’ān, saying, “Don’t read this, you don’t understand it; instead, read this man’s book, read that man’s book.” Such words are worthless. They are worthless.

Therefore, this is the greatest specialty of this blessed month. The Qur’ān was revealed on the Night of Power (Laylatu l-Qadr). Nothing can replace it. To partake in its virtue, with that intention, as we said, in shā’a Llāh; those who can should read a Juz every day, and those who cannot should certainly recite Surah Ikhlās a hundred times a day with the intention of reading a Juz.

May Allāh ﷻ grant you clarity of mind. It is Allāh’s ‎ﷻ wisdom, and this is one of the great miracles; a person may not know a single word of Arabic, may not speak it, but may recite the Qur’ān more beautifully than Arabs, having memorized it all. Some have even learned and practiced different recitation styles and rules of Tajweed.

This is because the Qur’ān is the word of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. It is easy because it penetrates people’s hearts and souls. No matter from what aspect you look at it, everything is in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. There is health, īmān, and barakah. All knowledge is there; both apparent and hidden knowledge is in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n.

If you say, “I’m reading this instead of the Qur’ān. This person has written so many books, I’m reading his books,” you will neither receive any barakah from it nor benefit from the Qur’ān; you will be deprived.

May Allāh ﷻ protect us. Be with good people. Be on the way of haqq (truth). The way of ṭarīqah is the way of haqq. Those who speak ill of the ṭarīqah, those who do not accept it, are leading people astray. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May Allāh ﷻ guide us all, in shā’a Llāh.

Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
