Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“مَّا يَفْتَحِ اللَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ مِن رَّحْمَةٍ فَلَا مُمْسِكَ لَهَا ۖ وَمَا يُمْسِكْ فَلَا مُرْسِلَ لَهُ مِن بَعْدِهِ”
(Qur’an 35:02)
“Mā yaftaḥi llāhu li-n-nāsi min raḥmatin fa-lā mumsika lahā wa-mā yumsik fa-lā mursila lahū min ba’dih”
“Whatever Allah grants to people of mercy – none can withhold it; and whatever He withholds – none can release it thereafter.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, when Allāh ﷻ sends His ﷻ mercy, no one can prevent it or withhold it. Mercy is all the mercy we see. Rain is also called mercy. This is the mercy of Allāh ﷻ to people, to earth, to everywhere. It has not rained for months; not just here but everywhere. There’s no rain.
Make it rain, let’s see. You say you’ve developed all this technology and that you know so much. Make it rain; you never will. When He ﷻ withholds it, no one can give His ﷻ mercy. Nobody can give that mercy.
Allāh ﷻ says, in the ḥadīth of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla created this world. He ﷻ provided for all its needs. With Allāh’s ﷻ wisdom, it is not according to the very knowledgeable people, but Allāh ﷻ created it and provided for its needs. He ﷻ provided for everything our planet earth needs.
Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “Rain definitely rains non-stop for 24 hours. It will rain but wherever Allāh ﷻ destined it; wherever Allāh ﷻ wills.” As we said, these people sometimes think they’re smart, “Rain evaporates”. It’s true. It evaporates, turns into clouds, and then it rains. But it happens wherever Allāh ﷻ wants, as He ﷻ wills.
Dunyā has its kismet also. Rain falls everywhere, for 24 hours. But it doesn’t fall where you want it to. Some places become bone dry. Other places sink. They submerge with the flood and the rain. This demonstrates the power of Allāh Azza wa-Jalla. Those with īmān believe. Those who don’t have īmān say, “There was this, there was that.”
Yet, what should we do to attain the mercy of Allāh ﷻ? We must obey Allāh Azza wa-Jalla. We must ask for the mercy of Allāh ﷻ. You must make du’ā’ so that Allāh ﷻ will send His ﷻ mercy upon you. And how is the du’ā’ accepted?
Every du’ā’, as our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, every du’ā’ is either accepted or not. But if you recite salawāt upon our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, then it is accepted.
You should recite salawāt at the beginning of your du’ā’ and at the end of your du’ā’. Since salawāt is accepted then what’s between it will be accepted too. Salawāt is acceptable in the sight of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Then, your du’ā’ becomes an accepted du’ā’.
Now you see they make du’ā’s for rain. There are those who recite salawāt also. But in some places, they do not realize the greatness and honor of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam in the sight of Allāh ﷻ.
They say, “He is like us.” That is why, they perform rain prayers and rain du’ā’s without reciting salawāt. After that, they say, “We prayed many times, it didn’t rain.” Of course, it won’t. If you didn’t say, “For the sake of the honorable face of our Prophet ﷺ,” it won’t rain.
Even when there was a drought when our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam was still a child, he ﷺ said, “For the sake of his ﷺ face,” the whole desert turned green from the rain. But when you don’t say so, when you don’t believe in him ﷺ, then take that drought.
Allāh ﷻ sends rains in the middle of the sea. You stand there with your mouth open and wait. There’s no rain. He ﷻ makes it rain in one place making it sink. And on the other side there’s nothing.
This is the power of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, the majesty of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. He ﷻ does whatever He ﷻ wills. And no one can give what He ﷻ doesn’t want. Neither technology nor anything else makes it rain.
Therefore, when this mercy comes, it’s Allāh’s ﷻ grace and favor. We should rejoice in it. We must make shukr to Allāh ﷻ so that He ﷻ makes it perpetual upon us. Because when we are grateful, favors increase and become perpetual. Without shukr – most people now are completely ungrateful.
There are no grateful people, but many who complain. They don’t appreciate anything. They don’t appreciate the favors they are given. Then they ask for something. Are you going to defy Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla? If you want to, then defy Him ﷻ as much as you want. No one suffers any harm but you.
May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May Allāh ﷻ make His ﷻ blessings perpetual upon us. Indeed, for the past few years, our situation has been very bad; people have been bad even spiritually. That’s why, this mercy has been delayed. Therefore, we must repent and seek forgiveness.
We must implore Allāh ﷻ to increase and make these blessings perpetual, in sha’a Lāh. This is not easy. Because, “وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ”, “Wa-jaʿalnā mina l-māʾi kulla shayʾin ḥayy”, “And We have made from water every living thing.” (Qur’an 21:30).
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, “We created every living creature from water.” All these creatures cannot be without water. Water is life. Life is a favor given by Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Therefore, we must make shukr to Allāh ﷻ.
May Allāh ﷻ increase it, in shā’a Llāh. May He ﷻ forgive us. We are all sinners. In shā’a Llāh, let us repent and seek forgiveness, and ask Allāh ﷻ for mercy, in shā’a Llāh. May He ﷻ send His ﷻ mercy, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
