Teach with Wisdom and Mercy

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm, “بَشِّرُوا ولا تُنَفِّرُوا، يَسِّرُوا ولا تُعَسِّرُوا”, “Bashshirū wa-lā tunaffirū, yassirū wa-lā tu‘assirū”, “Give people good tidings and do not make them run away; make things easy and do not make them difficult”, says our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. He ﷺ says, “Make things easy and do not complicate them.” Complicating leads people to hatred and pushes them away. It pushes them away from the religion. We shouldn’t complicate it too much for them.

Because not everyone is used to it. There are people who reached guidance later on. There are children. They are not used to it too. You must show the good and the bad in a nice way and ensure that they do it. Otherwise, when by force, most of the time, it happens the other way. The opposite happens. People start to hate. They don’t want to hear and want to run away from this thing.

Therefore, we must think through everything we do. We must look if we are doing right or we are doing wrong. That is why a ḥadīth sharīf of our Holy Prophet ﷺ says: “ تَفَكُّرَ سَاعَةٍ خَيْرٌ مِنْ عِبَادَةِ سَبْعِينَ سَنَةٍ”, “Tafakkur sā‘atin khayrun min ‘ibādati sab‘īn sanah.” Contemplating for an hour on what to do and how to do it is better than worshipping for seventy years. Probably, in that one hour one does much better things. It is beneficial to humanity and to himself. Otherwise, worshipping doesn’t bring bring benefit to others except to himself. There is nothing for others. Therefore, you must contemplate on what to do and how to behave. You must think about it and act accordingly.

The first thing people should do for their families is to teach them to pray. You can’t make them pray by beating. If they do, that’s until some point. Then they will run. You must do everything with goodness so that they follow you and don’t upset you. Otherwise, the more you apply force and push them, the more they will try to escape. There is nothing to escape from. Therefore, if you want to do so, do it to your ego. If you want to complicate it and do more, do it yourself. Let your ego do it. Oppress your ego. It is not the same with others. You can apply force only to your ego, and do goodness to others.

Always show beauty. With beauty, they will have affection towards you. They will love you and they will follow you. You can make them do everything you want. Otherwise, you can’t. May Allāh ﷻ give wisdom to all of us. May He ﷻ show us what we should do, and not according to our egos. May we know the good and the bad inshā’aLlāh.
