Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, being with good people and good friends is beneficial for a person. Being with bad friends is not good.
Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam likened it to this: a good friend is like a shop that sells pleasant perfumes. You go in there, and if you’re going to buy something, you buy it. If you’re not going to buy perfumes, you enjoy the pleasant scents.
At least, you’ll feel refreshed and leave. This is like a good friend. Because if a good friend has a good nature, they won’t hurt you, they won’t do you bad, they won’t harm you. Their behavior is good, their nature is good, you can get along with them. That good friend sells this pleasant scent; our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says.
Every kind of comfort comes to a person when they have a good friend. He commands goodness, shows beauty, and guides to it, he shows the way of Allāh ﷻ. He becomes a beautiful person in this world as well. Conversing with him, being with him, will not cause you harm.
He will not speak bad words. Being with that person, is a beautiful thing. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, be with such one.
He ﷺ also says, stay away from bad people. Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam also likened him (bad people) to the blacksmith’s shop. Now, of course, there are no more blacksmith’s shops left. There used to be such shops in old times, they used to put on a fire, and they used bellows to accelerate the fire.
When they were doing so, smoke would be released. In addition to smoke, other materials are used in these certain tools to make the iron firmer and better. But people don’t enjoy it much to stand there, in those shops, in blacksmith’s shops. They would either be bothered by the smell of that smoke. Or, when the fire is ignited, it touches you or burns your clothes.
So, that’s like a bad friend. If you stand next to a bad friend, their evil will definitely touch you.
Therefore, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, stay away from those bad people. Be with good people. The state and behavior of those bad people will either hurt you through words, or any other kind of evil. Any kind of evil can come from them.
Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “Do not approach them.” You look at a person once, twice, or three times, yet there’s no good in him. Each time you go there, they treat you worse. So, it’s better not to approach them.
This is the saying of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. A person should be good, like a shop selling pleasant perfumes, like good people, in shā’a Llāh. This is what is necessary for a person in their life.
For a person to be comfortable and to live a good life, they should do good. People should get along with others by doing good and approaching them with kindness. If someone sees a person and thinks, “Let me run away,” may Allāh ﷻ protect us.
May we not be from them, in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ grant us all goodness, in shā’a Llāh.
Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
