By the name of Allah, All-Mighty, All-Merciful, Most Beneficent and Most Munificent.

We are in need of more uns, familiarity. It is important, and familiarity grows among people when their iman, faith, becomes stronger.

Faith needs something to make it stronger; it needs feeding.

If you do not feed your faith, how will it grow stronger? By eating more? No. We are eating too much, growing fat physically but becoming weak spiritually.

Therefore, we must know what can feed our faith.

Eating and drinking are useless; they may even make it weaker. More fasting makes it stronger. But we are also looking for another thing, which the Prophet ﷺ informed us about. He ﷺ has taught us everything we need.

Once the Prophet ﷺ was asked, “What is faith?” He ﷺ answered, “As-sabr, patience.” Iman means patience; they are equal.

Whoever has patience will also have faith. According to the measure of his patience, his faith grows stronger.

The most important thing we need in this life is patience. Patience supports us both physically and spiritually.

Grandsheikh Abu Yazid al-Bistamiق was once asked, “What is the meaning of a person being in tariqah? What is tariqah asking from us?”

He replied, “To be patient with difficulties, with disliked things and actions.”

Everything in life may sometimes be disliked or distasteful, and we will certainly find such things among people. Particularly in our time, there are too many distasteful actions among people.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, people were mostly keeping their old manners. Religious manners they were keeping, good manners among families, neighbors, among children; they were under the control of their religious rules.

But day by day people’s relationship to their good manners is getting weaker and weaker, and now it is just finishing.

The reason is what people call “unlimited freedom” which began to spread at the beginning of this century.

With it, good manners have disappeared from families and from our society. Freedom is making people, everyone, to do as they like, and so many disliked actions have appeared until now they fill the whole world.

But we, as believers, have been asked to carry people; even with their bad manners, we have been asked to carry them. That means to be patient with people, and it gives strength to our faith.

The highest attribute for a person, is to try to reflect the attributes of Allah Almighty. And among them is patience.

I heard from my Grandsheikh, Abdullah al-Faiz ad-Daghestaniق, that every period of mankind is divided into ninety-nine divine appearances, manifestations.

From the time of Sayyidina Adam (AS) until today, these manifestations of the ninety-nine Beautiful Names of Allah ﷻ have continued.

In our own time, the manifestation is As-Sabur, the Patient. As-Sabur is the ninety-ninth Name of Allah ﷻ.

Allah ﷻ sees everything His servants are doing. Yet, He ﷻ does not quickly become angry. He is the Most Patient One, endlessly patient. And He ﷻ has made this Holy Name govern the time we are in now.

If not, He ﷻ would have quickly destroyed all the world by now.

In past times, when only a few people in a nation were wrong, there were whole nations which were destroyed and vanished because of them.

Now there are billions in error, yet Allah ﷻ is still carrying His ﷻ servants.

He ﷻ is looking at what we are doing to Him, and to each other, and still He remains As-Sabur. The most patient, endless patient with His ﷻ servants.

As His ﷻ servants, we must try to adorn ourselves with this divine attribute of patience.

May Allah ﷻ grant us from His endless patience and make us among His servants who are carried by His mercy.

Al-Fatiha.

This series was initiated by the SufiHub Team in honour of the 2nd Urs of our beloved Sheikh, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdul Sattar Khan, who lovingly dedicated himself to transcribing and summarising the daily sohbahs of Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق.

It was through this blessed service that he began his journey on this beautiful Way in 2008, remaining steadfast upon it until his final breath in 2023. Today, his legacy continues at our Zawiyah at A’Posh Bizhub Singapore through his representatives Sidi Shalihin, Ismail, and Syed Muhammad, who humbly carry forward the path he sincerely paved.

We pray that our dear Sheikh Abdul Sattar has been reunited with his beloved Mawlana Sheikh Nazimق and all our Grandshaykhs, and that their light continues to guide us always on the way of Haqq.

The text was originally taken from Liberating the Soul – A Guide for Spiritual Growth by Shaykh Nazim Adil al-Haqqaniق. With love and sincere intention, parts of this sohbah have been gently revised by the SufiHub Team for clarity and contextual relevance.

If you wish to share it on your platforms, kindly post it in full and ensure that proper credit is given to all its sources. For this is adab, the very core of our beautiful religion and way.
