Providing Iftār and Beauty of Fasting

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “He who provides a fasting person with iftār, will earn the same reward as the one who was observing the fast, without diminishing in any way the reward of the latter.”

Generosity is one of the Holy attributes of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. It’s not that He ﷻ will take from him and give to the other; Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla gives from His ﷻ own bounty.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, “Take, benefit from this,” referring to the goodness and opportunities He ﷻ has given to believers. And one of them is providing iftār to someone. So, whatever good deed is done, it will be rewarded manifold.

Today is the 10th of Ramaḍān, shukr to Allāh ﷻ. It’s not difficult. People sometimes think it’s difficult. Its beauty is not found elsewhere. The beauty of fasting; those who don’t fast don’t know it. They don’t experience or taste it.

As our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam said, in the sight of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, he who fasts has two joys. When breaking the fast, everyone who’s fasting feels great joy, peace, and beauty.

The second is the reward given for it in ākhirah; that is the main one and it’s in ākhirah. But even if only a small part of it [the joy in ākhirah], it is bestowed upon Muslims, upon those who are fasting at iftār time.

Therefore, a person who fasts is a lucky person. They haven’t been deceived by shayṭān, they haven’t obeyed their egos. The more they go against shayṭān and their egos, the better it is for them. When they follow them, they become their slaves, wandering around aimlessly. They strive to do whatever they want.

Rather, they must be subservient to you. Your ego must obey you. Shayṭān must stay far away from you. That’s how it should be.

If you do so, you will attain happiness and bliss both in this world and in the hereafter. The acts of worship and good deeds performed in this world greatly benefit and strengthen a person. They bring all kinds of goodness.

Therefore, we should accept the blessings that Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has bestowed upon us, and may we do them with joy, in shā’a Llāh. May Allāh ﷻ grant us success in doing so. May He ﷻ guide people and those who do not do so. May He ﷻ grant them the a share of that, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
