Plant the Qur’ān in a Child

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“إِنَّ هَٰذَا الْقُرْآنَ يَهْدِي لِلَّتِي هِيَ أَقْوَمُ”

(Qur’an: 17:9)

“Inna hādhā l-qur’āna yahdī lillatī hiya aqwam”

“Indeed, this Qur’an guides to that which is most suitable.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n shows the way best. It is a means to guidance. Read Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, says our Prophet ﷺ. Benefit from it.

Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is the only book in dunyā of the true word of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla exactly as Allāh ﷻ sent it. There are many books. As they say the Torah, the Bible, etc. but they have corrupted them all. They have changed them a lot, according to their own minds and as they wished.

The only book, heavenly book, the book that descended from Allāh ﷻ is Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. Read it, says our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. There is cure in it, there is goodness. There is every kind of goodness in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n.

Of course, not everyone can memorize Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. Most children are put in Madrasahs to memorize it, and they memorize it. May Allāh ﷻ be pleased with them. May Allāh ﷻ protect them. Now, shukr to Allāh ﷻ, it’s summer time. When it’s summer time – it’s found more in Türkiye; we don’t see it much in other places. When it’s summer time, when schools are done and vacation starts, shukr to Allāh ﷻ, teachers are giving [Qur’ān] lessons in mosques.

For a month, a month and a half, or forty days or so, the children go there every day for a couple of hours. They learn Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. Starting from Arabic alphabet. They learn how to read it in Arabic writing. It is a great beauty. May Allāh ﷻ be pleased with the people who did it. Most people also send their children. It’s also done here in Cyprus.

Our former Waqif (foundation) president, may Allāh ﷻ be pleased with him, has done every kind of goodness. And to make the children happier, he would also give gifts to the children who attend the classes. Now he’s no longer around. But still, they give little things to children, so that they will feel interested.

Qur’ān is the most necessary thing for a person. Learning Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n is more important than eating, drinking and breathing. The teachers already have beautiful methods. If a child pays attention, he can read in a week. But if he doesn’t pay too much attention, maybe in fifteen days or one month, he will start reading Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n. And he will be able to read comfortably in forty days anyways. That much is the teacher’s duty.

And then, in order for him not to forget it, the children’s families [must continue]. We say they should sacrifice their time, but it’s not sacrifice. To gain that time, sit with the child for five minutes. Let the child read that one page so that he can continue and not forget. With that one page he reads or what he learned from Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla heals his entire personality, develops his intelligence and beautifies his morality.

It benefits him with all kinds of goodness. To respect his family and be a beneficial person to his country and humanity, this is a small thing he does every day, but it gives strength to his soul and to his īmān.

Most people don’t give it importance, but it is the greatest most important thing. Teaching Qur’ān, learning the Qur’ān, keeping on it is a great gain. The greatest gain. Those who don’t do it live in vain. People today are confused about what to do for their children, “What should we give them?” People today have become slaves to their children. Instead of the children serving them, families serve their children. And on top of that, they don’t like it.

Reading Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n and keeping on it beautifies their morality. He respects his family, he respects people. He becomes a beautiful servant of Allāh ﷻ. May Allāh ﷻ grant us all to be good servants, in shā’a Llāh. This is a seed for the child. This is a seed to be planted in him that will be a giant plane tree in the future, a giant tree, a barakah, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
