One Scale to Know the Truth

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِن رَّبِّكُمْ ۖ فَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِن وَمَن شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ

(Qur’an 18:29)

“Wa Quli Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbikum, Faman Shā’a Falyu’umin Wa Man Shā’a Falyakfur”

“And say, “The truth is from your Lord, so whoever wills – let him believe; and whoever wills – let him disbelieve.” Sadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

“Speak the truth,” says Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. “Let whoever wants to believe, believe; and whoever doesn’t want to believe, not believe,” says Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla.

There are many things that appear to be true. People, especially Muslims, give credence to them, but often what appears to be the truth is not the truth. So, Muslims are easily deceived. There is a lot of naivety and innocence in Islām. That’s why they are easily deceived.

From the time of our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, many have tried to destroy Islām. All kinds of attempts have been made, never lacking. In the last two hundred years, they destroyed the Ottoman Empire, they destroyed the Caliphate. How did they destroy the Ottoman Empire? With all kinds of fitnah and corruption.

Eventually, they destroyed the Ottoman Empire from within. How? Scholars emerged, spreading slander and lies against the sultans, deceiving people. Ultimately, they destroyed the Caliphate and Islām. How did Islām collapse? It collapsed because there was no Caliph. We see that. The situation is like this.

There is one scale that needs to be considered carefully. What is it? The last Caliph who ruled was Sultān Abdul Hamīd Han. Anyone who opposes him is not acceptable. No matter how much they appear to be Muslim, patriotic, etc., none of that matters.

After they opposed the Caliph and destroyed Islām, you can write as many books as you want, you can claim as much credit as you want, but it was all just talk. Lots of talk, little action. Sultān Abdul Hamīd had little talk and much action. Because of that, his true value wasn’t appreciated.

They followed those who were too talkative. They brought him down. It is mentioned in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, “وَالشُّعَرَاءُ يَتَّبِعُهُمُ الْغَاوُونَ”, “Wa Ash-Shuarā’u YattabiuhumuAl-Ghāwūn”, “And the poets – [only] the deviators follow them;” (Qur’an 26:224). They follow the poets like sheep. They are easily deceived; they believe and follow them.

That’s the matter. We must pay attention to this. Many, may Allāh ﷻ protect us, are people we know very well, people we thought were good, but weren’t. May Allāh ﷻ forgive us all. May Allāh ﷻ grant us vigilance. May we see the good and the bad, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
