Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “Do not prolong when leading a prayer or delivering a Khutbah.”
When there’s a congregation behind you, it’s not obvious if there’s children, sick people, or elderly people. Therefore, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “Make it short without prolonging it or causing distress to others.”
“When you do it yourself, make it as long as you want”, says our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. But when you’re with people, you need to know everyone’s state.
To make it easy taking in consideration their situation and not to cause them distress, our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, even worship, do it in a way people can tolerate.
Now, when people stand for a prayer, they should perform it quickly, without prolonging it too much. There are times and hours where it can be extended, so people adjust accordingly. Otherwise, it becomes a problem.
For example, there are mosques where people perform Tarawīh with a full Khatm. Those who can tolerate it go there. If they can’t, they go behind the imam who performs the prayer quickly, and they know how to adjust themselves accordingly.
But if he prolongs causing discomfort to people without knowing it, then he will attain more fault than rewards. Because what is people’s tolerance, state and circumstances?
Our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam knows best. He ﷺ informed us. We must act accordingly, in shā’a Llāh.
May Allāh ﷻ grant us all the ability to act in a way that will bring goodness to people and everyone, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.
There are recited Qur’an Khatms, Tasbihāt, Surahs, Salawat, and whatever good deeds there are. We gift them all to our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam, his ahlu l-bayt and sahabah, all Anbiya, Awliya, Asfiya. To the souls of our Mashayikh.
To the souls of all our ancestors. May they receive it in shā’a Llāh. May those who recited reach whatever good goals they have. For happiness here and hereafter.. Li-Llahi Ta’āla.
