Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“وَأَن لَّوِ اسْتَقَامُوا عَلَى الطَّرِيقَةِ لَأَسْقَيْنَاهُم مَّاءً غَدَقًا”
(Qur’ān 72:16)
“Wa ‘Allawi Astaqāmū `AláAţ-Ţarīqati L’asqaynāhum Mā’an Ghadaqāan”
“If they had believed in Allāh, and went on the Right Way, We should surely have bestowed on them water (rain) in abundance.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.
Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla says, if they are straight upon istiqāmah – this applies to everyone, all mankind – if they are straight on the right way, there will be enough for them from everything, and even more. After being straight upon istiqāmah, Allāh ﷻ has provided everyone with his rizq. But mankind does not keep upon istiqāmah.
What is meant by istiqāmah is being straight. If everyone were to be straight, without deceiving anyone, without harming anyone, minding their own business, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has provided for each what’s enough for them.
But because people follow the shayṭāns—ego, desires, shayṭān and dunyā: the four enemies of mankind—they cannot keep upon istiqāmah at all. They cannot remain straight on the right way. They cannot stay upon justice; they cannot act justly.
Therefore, dunyā has become torture for everyone. And those who do not keep upon istiqāmah, are tortured even more. The more they go on crooked ways, lie, and do what’s wrong, the more they stray from the way, and it does not benefit them in any way. Materially also, it becomes a life without barakah. It becomes a lifetime of no barakah for them.
Now, the world’s state is always in that direction. There are schools, madrasahs, universities. What do they teach? They supposedly teach the right thing. And while teaching what’s right, they teach even more about what’s wrong.
They direct and manipulate people to their liking, saying, “If you do this, you’ll gain that. If you do that, you’ll gain more.” And then they gain nothing.
They achieve nothing but harm. What they achieve is nothing but evil. Because istiqāmah (being straight) must also be upon the command of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Without that, that istiqāmah will inevitably become a way, a means, to stray from the right way.
Therefore, istiqāmah is important. Once you are upon istiqāmah—they say the world is 8 billion now. It’s enough for 80 billion. But if they’re in this state, it won’t even be enough for them. It won’t even be enough for them. That’s why, they are devouring each other.
They devour each other, thinking, “If this person eats, I won’t eat.” They don’t trust each other. They stray from the right way. They also claim and demonstrate their actions as if they were real knowledge. They also lead others astray.
The person who leads another astray, his punishment – however many people he led astray, their sins are also upon him. May Allāh ﷻ protect us.
In many places in Qur’ān ‘Aẓīmu sh-Sha’n, Allāh ﷻ Azza wa-Jalla speaks of this matter of istiqāmah, of being straight. Muslims should be the first to do this. Unfortunately, Muslims are the most far from istiqāmah.
May Allāh ﷻ guide them all. May Allāh ﷻ protect us from the evils of our egos and the evil of shayṭān. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.
Al-Fatiha.
