Don’t Interfere with the Government

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

“أَطِيعُوا اللَّهَ وَأَطِيعُوا الرَّسُولَ وَأُولِي الْأَمْرِ مِنكُمْ”

(Qur’ān 04:59)

“Aṭiū’ Llāha wa aṭiū’ r-Rasūla wa Ūli l-‘Amri minkum”

“Obey Allah and obey the Messenger and those in authority among you.” Ṣadaqa Llāhu l-‘Aẓīm.

Grand Shaykh Mawlana Shaykh ‘Abdu Llāh ad-Dāghestānī would repeat this blessed Ayah Karīmah a lot. Obey Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla, obey our ‎Prophet ﷺ and obey Ulī l-‘Amr, your superior commander, the government, the state.

First of all, of course, fulfill the order of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. After that, obey Ulī l-‘Amr. If the normal person is minding his own business, nobody will interfere with him. He should obey so that nobody interferes with him. He will manage his worldly affairs. If he does something else – Grand Shaykh in Damascus, of course at that time, the government was not an easy government, but still those who did not oppose managed to get by.

Therefore, there is no need to endanger oneself and endanger others. If you act against the government, against the state for the sake of dunyā or according to your own mind, it’s not acceptable anyways. No matter how oppressive the government is, you must still obey. It is not necessary to go against it.

This is the same in sharī’ah rulings. The one who rebels and opposes is opposing the order of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. For example, unless they force you to do something forbidden, you mustn’t oppose them. Unless they force you to drink alcohol – of course, they will not force you to drink alcohol. And they will not force you to steal either. Those are things that suit their own minds. It is not necessary to obey them in such cases anyway.

After you have performed your prayer and worship and secured your livelihood, you mustn’t make Fitnah against Ulī l-‘Amr. Do not oppose them. There are some people who think they are smart, they go against the government and the state. And then, they get themselves into a disaster, and they harm themselves. They harm those around them. Then, they would not gain a reward but a sin.

Therefore, the state of a Muslim is that he should not cause harm for the sake of dunyā. The harm done for the sake of dunyā is not acceptable in the sight of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. It is considered a sin. The fashion of today’s time is to create mischief everywhere and to go against the governments and state. It is of no benefit. It is harmful. At first, it is harmful to those who do it. It is bad for them. And it is not acceptable in the sight of Allāh ﷻ.

Whoever Allāh ﷻ has appointed, the Muslim will follow him. He will go on this way, whether he follows Allāh’s ﷻ command or not. This is the desire of Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has placed a human being, a state over us. We should not interfere. You must obey, then nothing will happen to you, no harm will come to you. You are under protection. Don’t interfere. The most important thing is not to interfere. Don’t interfere.

May Allāh ﷻ protect you. Everyone should mind their own business, mind their own affairs and take care of their families; it’s enough. May Allāh ﷻ give people mind and understanding. Most people think they’re doing good. Whereas at first they’re harming themselves. May Allāh ﷻ protect us. May He ﷻ protect us from fitnah. We live in the end of times, fitnahs are many. May Allāh ﷻ protect us all and preserve us. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq. Al-Fatiha.

There are recited Qur’an Khatms, Surahs, Ayāt, Tasbīhat, Tahlilāt, Salawāt upon our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. Whatever good goals they have, may Allāh ﷻ accept them. We gift them firstly to the great soul of our Holy Prophet ﷺ, his ﷺ Ahlu l-Bayt and ṣaḥābah, souls of all Anbiya, Awliya, Asfiya. To the souls of our Mashāyikh. To the souls of all Mu’mins and Mu’minahs, Muslims and Muslimāt. May whatever goals those who recited have be reached. For strength of īmān for all of us insha’Allah. For happiness here and hereafter. Li-Llahi Ta’āla.

Al-Fatiha.
