Don’t Deny the Sin but Repent

Bismi Llāhi r-Raḥmāni r-Raḥīm

Our Holy Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam says, “الدِّين النَّصِيحَة”, “Ad-Dīnu n-Naṣīḥah”, “Religion is advice”.

Religion is based on advice. What is meant by advice is to say what’s good. If people ask something, ask for advice, or ask for an opinion, to offer the good one. Religion is not to speak what’s wrong, but to give people advice and show them the right way.

Some people may say, “No, I don’t like that.” If they say that, then it means they don’t want advice. It is also said, “من لم يقبل النصيحة حلت الندامة”. Those who don’t accept advice will eventually regret it.

Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has shown us the religion through our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam. He ﷻ has shown us everything: the good, bad, sin, and reward. Religion has its principles, etiquette, obligations, and so on.

Of course, most people can’t do them all; they do as much as they can. And Allāh ﷻ forgives. Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla forgives people. So, there’s an important issue here. They say, “I can’t do it, may Allāh ﷻ forgive me. I sinned, may Allāh ﷻ forgive me.”

But if they do something and say, “No, I don’t accept this,” then things change. Things get worse. We sin; we know. We sin, may Allah ﷻ forgive us. We repent and seek forgiveness. But we sin and we persist and say, “No, this is not a sin for me.” However, Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla informed us that it is a sin through our Prophet ṣallá Llāhu ‘alayhi wa-sallam.

If someone refuses to accept it, they will have committed a greater sin, may Allāh ﷻ forgive them. Then, things will go bad. However, if someone knows their sin or mistake and even apologizes to people, they will be forgiven. However, if they persist and refuse, they will only make matters worse.

Therefore, there is no way to argue with them about what Allāh ‘Azza wa-Jalla has commanded. A sin is a sin. We are all sinners. May Allāh ﷻ forgive us. But we cannot say that sin is “not a sin.” That is what’s important. We must be careful about this. People must pay attention to that.

There are minor and major sins. The person who commits a sin should say, “We committed a sin, may Allāh ﷻ forgive us.” He should repent and seek forgiveness. That sin will be forgiven. But if you say, “No, it is not a sin,” then Allāh ﷻ will not forgive you. Because you didn’t ask for forgiveness.

If you ask forgiveness, He ﷻ will forgive you. But you cannot say, “This is not a sin.” You say that what Allāh ﷻ calls a sin is not. Then, you are harming yourself.

May Allāh ﷻ forgive us all. May He ﷻ make us among those who accept the truth, in shā’a Llāh. Wa min Allah at-Tawfiq.

Al-Fatiha.
