Bismillahir Rahmanir Raheem
Devotions for Lailatul Isra’ Mi’raj
Lailatul Isra’ Mi’raj falls on the night of the 27th of Rejab.
These are the instructions for this night:
1) Pray Solat Sunnat Isra’ Mi’raj (2 raka’ats)
In each raka’at, recite
• 1 x Surah Al-Fatiha
• 20 x Surah Al-Ikhlas
Even those who have yet to pay back (qadha’) past missed fardhu prayers, may do this Sunnat prayer.
After completing the solat, recite
• 10 x Salawat Shareef and
• this short dua,
‘Bismillahi Ar-Rahman Ar-Rahim. Allahumma inni asaaluka bimushahada: asrari-l muhibbeen wa bil khalwa:-lla: khassasta biha sayyida-l mursaleen haythu asrayta bihi laylata-s sabi’ wa-l ‘ishreen an tarhama qalbi-l hazin wa tujiba da’wa: ya Akrama-l Akrameen, wa salla Allahu ‘ala Sayyidina Muhammadin wa ‘ala aalihi wa sahbihi ajma’een wal alhamdulilahi Rabbil ‘alameen.’,
followed by any other dua for yourself, your loved ones and the Ummah.
It is very good to make tasabih on this night, make tahlil, tasbih or dhikr. Also feed the poor, or feed your family, invite them to celebrate that night.
2) Complete Solat Sunnat Rejab
For those who have yet to complete the last 10 raka’ats of the 30 raka’at Solat Sunnat Rejab, please do so by tonight. Or if you haven’t done any, you may do the full 30 raka’ats tonight at one go. See how to perform this prayer here:
3) Pray Solat Sunnat Tasabeeh (4 raka’ats)
4) Once completing all of the above, Mureeds are to make fervent do’a for ourselves and our loved ones.
5) Tonight, Mureeds are to perform these prayers in their own homes, and should not be out visiting relatives.
Footnote: It is a Sunnah to fast on the day of 27th Rejab.
Devotions On The Day of Isra’ Mi’raj
1) Sunnah Fasting
Prophet (ﷺ) said, “If someone keeps the fast on the 27th day of Rejab, he will be credited with the same reward as that which is given for fasting 60 months.
When I was in Lefke, I saw that Maulana Shaykh Nazimق, even when he was in poor health then, still fasted on this day, and broke his fast up in the mountains with all of us on that day. MasyaAllah.
2) Pray Solat Sunnat After Zuhur (4 raka’ats)
According to Shaykh Abdul Qadir Jilaniق, this is the way one of the Companions, Sayyidina Abdullah ibn ‘Abbas (ra), used to worship on that day:
He would iktikaf in the mosque from subuh and spend all morning in ibadah (adab, awrad, wazifa, Qur’an, Dalailul khairat etc).
After zuhur, he would pray a 4 ra’kaat Sunnat prayer.
In each raka’at, he would recite:
• 1 x Surah Al-Fatiha
• 1 x Surah Al-Falaq
• 1 x Surah An-Nas
• 3 x Surah Al-Qadr, and
• 50 x Surah Al-Ikhlas.
He would then make do’a until asar.
“This,” said the Sahabah, “is exactly what Rasulullah (ﷺ) always did on this particular day.”
Remember, fasting means that you must fast your eyes and tongue and all organs, it is no point fasting if you are looking at haram things and backbiting/lying/gossiping.
Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Many a person who keeps the fast gains nothing from his fasting but hunger and thirst, and many a person who stays awake at night, gains nothing from his vigil, except insomnia.”
3) Qurban
Our Naqshbandi Shuyukh also do a sacrifice of a goat on this day, and distribute its meat to the poor. The rewards of sadaqa (alms giving) on this day is multiplied 1000 times more.
4) Recite 1000 x Surah Al-Ikhlas
Mawlana Shaykh Mehmet (q) said let this be recited throughout the day as the rewards are great.
